Job Description

Position:
Youth Learning Coach Status:
Full Time, Hourly, 35 hours/week Optional part-time summer employment available - 20 hours/week June -
August Pay Range:
$19-21 per hour
Position Summary:
The Learning Coach provides academic, social-emotional, and behavioral support to students in grades 6-12 who have been expelled or are serving long-term suspensions, helping them successfully return to school and prepare for graduation. Working alongside the Education Director, the Learning Coach builds trusting relationships, supports life hour planning/execution, and equips students with the skills needed for long-term success. The ideal candidate is flexible, trauma-informed, and passionate about empowering youth through consistent care, mentorship, and personal growth.
Position Responsibilities:
Alternative Suspension Accountability Program (ASAP) Works with students who are at-risk of not graduating or with a history of discipline issues in an education setting. Facilitates learning and credit recovery through online platforms such as Edmentum and Graduation Alliance. Assists in the instruction of a variety of subjects including, but not limited to, reading, writing, and mathematics (9 or 10th grade level proficiency). Develops goal setting plans with students, provides encouragement, and adjusts plans as needed to promote success. Maintains accurate records of student progress and communicates effectively with the education team and/or parents/guardians. Behavioral Intervention Uses a trauma-informed approach to manage student behavior, teaches problem-solving and communication skills, and maintains a safe and productive classroom. Assists students in times of emotional crisis and offers support through de-escalation, problem-solving, and empathy. Ensures student well-being through active supervision, sound judgment, and responsible decision-making. Mentorship & Program Support Designs and implement monthly lessons (life hours) on subjects pertaining to mental health, career readiness, effective communication, healthy living, and other related topics. Builds trusting relationships with youth to encourage positive growth and outcomes. Assists with student intakes and enrollment processes alongside the Education Director. Provides transportation, meal supervision, and support for daily student activities. Helps plan and supervise field trips and other program events. Performs additional duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities:
In coordination with the Education Director, develop monthly food calendar for breakfast and lunch. Work within the established budget to purchase lunch items. Serve and prep food when necessary.
Position Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (preferred). Classroom management experience (preferred). Proficiency in academic support (middle and high school levels). Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with a trauma-informed and culturally responsive approach. Experience working with students with academic and social-emotional- behavioral challenges. Passion for empowering youth and experience supporting students with academic, social, emotional, and behavioral challenges in a non-traditional setting. Experience working with diverse populations and demonstrated ability for cultural competency. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites (basic technology). Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certification.
