We are seeking a Peer Engagement Specialist who is passionate about supporting individuals in recovery and helping people build meaningful, self-directed lives. Through outreach, engagement, recovery support, and community connections, you will play a vital role in helping individuals affected by opioid use and co-occurring mental health challenges achieve long-term stability and wellness. This is a part-time, 30 hours per week position within our Housing Program . Candidates must reside in Connecticut to be eligible for this position. What You Will Do In this role, you will provide intensive outreach and recovery-oriented services that support individuals in achieving their recovery goals while promoting independence, community integration, and overall well-being. Build trusted relationships with individuals affected by substance use and mental health challenges through outreach, engagement, and ongoing peer support. Assist clients in identifying goals, developing recovery plans, and accessing community resources, benefits, housing supports, healthcare, and other essential services. Encourage participation in recovery-focused activities, skill-building opportunities, support groups, and community-based programs. Conduct regular client meetings, including community and home visits as appropriate, while coordinating care with internal teams, families, and external providers. Provide education, encouragement, and advocacy that promote recovery, resilience, self-sufficiency, and meaningful community involvement. Maintain accurate documentation, participate in team meetings and trainings, support program reporting requirements, and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards. What You Will Bring High school diploma or equivalent required, with at least two years of experience in a behavioral health, substance use treatment, recovery support, or related human services setting. Personal lived experience with mental health recovery and/or substance use recovery, with a strong commitment to supporting others on their recovery journey. Certification as a Drug and Alcohol Recovery Counselor (DARC), Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner (CPRP), or the ability to obtain certification. Knowledge of recovery-oriented practices, psychiatric rehabilitation principles, community resources, and person-centered care approaches. Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and the ability to learn and effectively navigate electronic health record (EHR) systems. Valid Connecticut driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to maintain an acceptable driving record in accordance with agency requirements Why Work at BHcare?
