POSITION OVERVIEW
We are currently seeking a Career Coach in our Lapeer County Service Center to work closely with jobseekers in various Michigan Works! programs to help them with their training and employment goals. The goal of this position is to provide assistance to participants, including youth and refugees, by interviewing, assessing, providing support services, follow-up and referrals. The ideal candidate would be good at developing relationships and making connections with our customers to ensure training and employments goals are met. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide initial and extended interviews and assessments with participants to identify needs, interests, and abilities. Assistance may include resume writing, interview skills and career exploration. 2. Assist participants in developing Individual Services Strategies and employment plans that fit participants' aptitudes, educational levels, physical abilities, career goals and local employer demand. 3. Provide information to participants about the types of Michigan Works programs and services for which he or she may be eligible and assist with selection of programs based on individual interest, aptitude, eligibility and local employer demand. 4. Assess and refer participants to appropriate workshops or paid trainings to upgrade existing skills. 5. Provide crisis intervention counseling and referrals addressing barriers to job search and employment such as childcare, transportation, housing, clothing, medical care, substance abuse counseling, and domestic violence. 6. Maintain knowledge of resources available, provide information and refer participants to agencies or community services for assistance. 7. Work collaboratively with the Business Services team in monitoring available job leads, on-the-job or customized training opportunities, screening participants and making referrals when appropriate. 8. Monitor and record participants' progress to ensure that training and employment goals and objectives are met. 9. Responsible for following all requirements regarding participant files, OSMIS reporting, maintaining case notes throughout all activities and retention period, in order to ensure successful outcomes and meet data validation and performance measurements. 10. Assist participants in the development and improvement of a professional resume. 11. Prepare and maintain records and case files, including documentation such as participants' personal and eligibility information, services provided, narratives of client contacts, and relevant correspondence. 12. Consistently provide a good example of appearance, work ethic and customer service to customers served. 13. Meet or exceed established Agency performance expectations. 14. Attend professional development activities, trainings and seminars. 15. Actively participate in continuous quality improvement processes. 16. Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Associates degree in Social Work, Human Services, Career Counseling, Human Resources, or a related field is preferred, however experience within the field will be considered in lieu of a degree. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, database management and data entry, and general computer applications. Must maintain confidentiality while providing patient, friendly and participant centered services.
