Exempt Essential Functions The Career Services Coordinator provides comprehensive career development and workforce preparation services designed to connect Coastal Bend College students with meaningful career and employment opportunities. The position supports students through the student lifecycle, from enrollment through graduation and workforce entry, by providing career exploration, workforce readiness, employer connections, internship and job placement assistance. The Career Services Coordinator develops and maintains relationships with regional employers throughout the Coastal Bend College service area to expand internship, apprenticeship, job-shadowing, experiential learning, and employment opportunities aligned with students' academic program and career goals. This is a grant-funded position. Job Duties and Responsibilities Analyze regional and state workforce trends, labor market information, and employer needs to identify high-demand occupations, career pathways, required skills, and employment opportunities relevant to Coastal Bend College programs. Conduct career conversations with first-time-in-college (FTIC) students to help students understand the relationship between academic programs, credentials, career pathways, and employment opportunities. Provide career exploration, advising, and coaching to undecided students to assist them in identifying academic majors and career pathways aligned with their interests, abilities, career goals, and labor market demand. Meet with current students throughout their academic programs to review career goals, explore career options, identify employment opportunities, and prepare for successful transition into the workforce. Develop individualized Career Success Plans that complement students' academic advising and educational plans and establish actionable career development goals and milestones. Prepare students for employment through resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, LinkedIn and professional profile development, networking strategies, job-search techniques, workplace expectations, and professional etiquette. Develop and maintain partnerships with businesses, industries, government agencies, healthcare organizations, school districts, nonprofit organizations, and other regional employers. Conduct proactive employer outreach to identify workforce needs and expand internship, apprenticeship, experiential learning, job-shadowing, and employment opportunities for Coastal Bend College students and graduates. Coordinate and support career fairs, employer recruiting events, employer information sessions, career workshops, mock interviews, networking opportunities, and other career development activities. Serve as a primary liaison between employer partners and the College's Career Services Department, providing responsive communication and facilitating connections between employers, students, faculty, and College programs. Maintain accurate and timely records of student appointments, career services provided, Career Success Plans, employer contacts, internships, work-based learning experiences, employment placements, events, and other required outcomes. Track student participation and outcomes to evaluate the effectiveness of Career Services activities and support institutional and grant performance measures. Assist with grant reporting and continuous improvement activities. Maintain compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and all applicable College policies. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or a minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in workforce development, career services, job placement, or a closely related field. Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, relationship-building, presentation, and organizational skills. Knowledge of or familiarity with the Coastal Bend region, including regional employers, workforce needs, industries, occupations, and career opportunities. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, and meet established deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience providing career coaching, career exploration, workforce readiness, internship development, employer engagement, or job placement services. Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, maintain, and report program data to support grant objectives, performance measures, assessment, and continuous improvement. Ability to use technology and data systems to document services, track student and employer engagement, and support program and grant reporting. Experience working in higher education, workforce development, or a grant-funded program.
Supplemental Information Travel Requirements:
This position requires regular travel throughout the Coastal Bend College service area to meet with employers, businesses, industry partners, community organizations, and other stakeholders and to attend meetings, trainings, career events, and other College-related activities. The employee must possess a valid driver's license, maintain current automobile insurance as required by law, and have reliable transportation necessary to fulfill the travel responsibilities of the position.
Environment:
Work is generally performed in an office and educational setting with frequent interruptions and varying workflow demands. Duties may also be performed at employer locations, College sites, community events, career fairs, and outdoor events. The position may require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking; occasional lifting and moving of materials or equipment weighing up to 35 pounds; and the ability to perform duties at events that may require extended periods of standing or walking.
