After Hours On-Call Private Duty Aide

Job Description

The After-Hours On-Call Private Duty Aide provides dependable, responsive coverage for last-minute and urgent private care needs that arise outside of normal business hours. This position is specifically designed to support continuity of care when a regularly scheduled caregiver becomes unexpectedly unavailable, an urgent client need arises, or immediate staffing coverage is required. The On-Call Private Duty Aide must be prepared to accept assignments with limited notice during designated on-call periods and travel to clients' homes within the agency's service area. This role requires a high level of flexibility, reliability, professionalism, and commitment to ensuring clients receive safe and consistent care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Remain available and responsive during assigned on-call periods to provide last-minute client coverage. Accept urgent assignments when contacted by the Private Care on-call team. Report to client homes within the expected timeframe following notification of an assignment. Provide temporary or emergency coverage when a regularly scheduled caregiver calls out or is otherwise unavailable. Provide personal care and assistance with activities of daily living in accordance with the client's established plan of care. Assist clients with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility, transfers, ambulation, and other approved personal care needs. Provide companionship, supervision, and safety monitoring as required by the client's plan of care. Assist with meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, and other approved homemaking responsibilities. Provide medication reminders when permitted by agency policy and the client's plan of care. Observe and promptly report changes in a client's condition, safety concerns, falls, hospitalizations, or other significant events to the appropriate supervisor or on-call representative. Follow client-specific instructions and established plans of care. Complete required documentation accurately and within established timeframes. Maintain client confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all agency policies and procedures. Communicate professionally with clients, families, coworkers, and members of the Private Care team. Provide a dependable and reassuring presence for clients and families during unexpected staffing situations.
On Call Expectiations:
This position requires a higher level of availability and flexibility than a traditional per diem caregiver position. During an assigned on-call period, the employee is expected to: Remain reachable by telephone and respond promptly when contacted. Maintain the ability to report to an assigned client's home on short notice. Be prepared to work with different clients and at different locations within the designated service area. Maintain reliable transportation throughout the assigned on-call period. Accept urgent assignments consistent with the employee's qualifications and agency requirements. Remain available for the duration of the designated on-call period unless released by the agency. Communicate immediately if circumstances arise that could affect the employee's ability to respond to an assignment.
Qualifications:
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Home Health Aide (HHA) certification preferred or required based on agency and client needs. Previous private duty, home care, assisted living, long-term care, or related caregiving experience preferred. Current CPR certification, if required by agency policy. Ability to provide personal care safely and appropriately within the employee's scope of practice. Demonstrated reliability and ability to work independently in clients' homes. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to adapt quickly to unfamiliar clients, homes, routines, and care needs. Ability to remain calm and professional when responding to urgent staffing situations. Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout the assigned service area. Ability to meet all agency employment, background check, health screening, and training requirements. The ideal After-Hours On-Call Private Duty Aide is an experienced caregiver who is dependable, flexible, confident, and comfortable stepping into assignments on short notice . This individual understands that urgent coverage is essential to maintaining client safety and continuity of care and is willing to support the agency when unexpected staffing needs arise. By being available to respond to last-minute assignments, this position helps prevent missed shifts, supports caregivers and the Private Care team, and—most importantly—helps ensure clients receive the care and assistance they depend on in their homes.
