Job Description

Job Overview You will be my son's caregiver and respite care person for his mother. You will assist client in getting out into the community, going out to movies and thrift stores, grocery shopping, out to lunch, errands and other activities that the client may be interested in. Assist client with following through with tasks such as dusting, vacuuming, the areas he sleeps and spends his time in. There may be times that you may have to take client to appointments and over nights may be required. The position is one that may seem easy, uncomplicated and may at times seem boring. The greatest task is to try to get the client motivated in going outside, participate in projects and social activities that you may initiate with the managing parties approval. The client has no clue about money and will spend it all if he has it so the caregiver/respite person must assist him in monitoring his funds & not take advantage of his kindness as the client has paid for meals over and above what he himself has been allocated to spend. The caregiver must go in to stores with him to monitor such things. Responsibilities & Risk Management Plan If client gets frustrated or agitated, suggest client wear headphones and listen to music, do not persist in making client do something they do not want to do. Be patient and always stress you are here to assist the client and ask client questions or just give client some space. Administer medications following prescribed care plans while adhering to HIPAA regulations. Medications are already prepared ahead of time. A.M/P.M. Only. Tell client you are his caregiver/respite person and you are here through issues of concern and that you support him. If client starts to get agitated change the subject and ask client questions about his family, fishing, documentaries, current events, NASA etc. Client is easily frustrated; client will leave and not want to complete a project. At those times be accepting and do not get upset with him. Watch a movie, play cards, etc. Other risk management information that may apply. You may evaluate areas of concern and make suggestions. Qualifications The ideal caregiver/respite person will be on social security and appreciate the extra income and be flexible with their hours at times. Male and Females are welcome to apply Must have a smart phone to put their hours in from start to finish daily. Prior experience in working with disabled individuals Compassionate attitude with excellent communication skills Strong observational skills for patient monitoring and safety awareness Ability to work independently Experience in medication administration and vital signs measurement This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals requiring dedicated caregiving support.
