Job Description

$15 per hour | Flexible 4 to 12-hour shifts | Up to 40 hours per week Some people become caregivers because they need a job. Others become caregivers because taking care of people is simply part of who they are. We are looking for the second kind. Assisting at Home is hiring kindhearted, dependable caregivers to support seniors in New Bern and surrounding communities across Craven, Carteret, Pitt, Lenoir, and Jones counties. The right person understands that helping someone bathe, get dressed, prepare a meal, or safely move around their home is not "just a task." It is personal, meaningful work that allows someone to maintain their dignity and independence. Our clients deserve caregivers who genuinely care about them. They also deserve caregivers who arrive on time, keep their commitments, and can be counted on when a family is depending on them. If you bring both compassion and dependability to your work, we would love to meet you. What Kind of Caregiver Are We Looking For? We are looking for someone who: Treats seniors with patience, warmth, and respect Enjoys talking with older adults and making them feel valued Takes pride in being someone others can depend on Arrives on time and prepared for every scheduled shift Communicates professionally with clients, families, and our office Understands that personal care must always be provided with dignity Notices the little things that can make someone's day better Remains calm, caring, and responsible when situations become difficult Wants their work to mean something You do not need to be the loudest or most outgoing person in the room. You do need to be kind, patient, trustworthy, and willing to take responsibility for the people in your care. What You May Be Doing Your responsibilities will depend on the needs of each client and may include: Assisting with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting Helping with walking, transfers, and mobility Preparing meals Performing light housekeeping Providing transportation to appointments and activities Offering companionship and meaningful conversation Assisting with other activities of daily living Communicating important information to families and our office Helping clients remain safe, comfortable, and independent at home Sometimes the most important thing you will provide is not something on a task list. It may be listening to a story, sharing a laugh, noticing that something is wrong, or simply helping someone feel less alone. Dependability Is Not Optional Caregiving is different from many other jobs. When a caregiver does not arrive, a senior may be left without a meal, a shower, necessary personal care, or a safe way to get out of bed. A missed shift does not just inconvenience the office. It affects a real person and a family that trusted us to be there. Please do not apply if you: Regularly call out of work Frequently arrive late Stop responding when you are scheduled to work Fail to report for shifts without communicating Cannot reliably travel to the clients whose assignments you accept Are uncomfortable assisting with bathing, toileting, or other personal care View caregiving as easy work that requires minimal effort or responsibility We understand that genuine emergencies happen. What we cannot accept is a pattern of poor attendance, lateness, or a lack of communication.

Tapcheck and TeamEngage are planned programs and are not currently available. Is This You? If you are the person who naturally helps others, follows through on your promises, and believes every senior deserves to be treated with dignity, we want to hear from you.
