Caregiver/Floor Assistant Job Summary:
The Caregiver/Floor Assistant provides compassionate, hands-on care to residents in a nursing facility. This position assists residents with activities of daily living, promotes their comfort and safety, and works as part of the healthcare team to provide quality resident care.
Essential Job Duties:
Assist residents with bathing, dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene.
Help residents with toileting, continence care, and changing linens.
Assist residents with mobility, including transferring, repositioning, walking, and using mobility equipment safely.
Help residents during mealtimes and assist with feeding when needed.
Observe and report changes in residents' physical or mental condition to the nursing staff.
Answer resident call lights promptly and courteously.
Maintain clean resident rooms and common areas.
Assist with transporting residents to meals, activities, appointments, and therapy.
Encourage resident independence while providing needed assistance.
Provide companionship and emotional support to residents.
Follow infection control procedures and safety policies.
Document care and complete assigned tasks accurately, if required.
Work cooperatively with nurses, therapists, and other staff members.
Maintain resident privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Previous caregiver, nursing assistant, or long-term care experience preferred but not required.
Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
Ability to lift, transfer, and reposition residents safely.
