Through its programs, the Community Gardens, Urban Farms, the Farmers Market, the Fresco Mobile Market, and La Cocina Alegre, BWC supports local food production, educates the public, and provides access to affordable, nutritious food
POSITION SUMMARY
BWC's Community Programs Coordinator - The Happy Kitchen / La Cocina Alegre (LCA) is a positive, community-driven individual passionate about cooking, nutrition education, and empowering others to make healthy food choices. This role is responsible for planning coordinating, and facilitating community-based programs that bring people together around healthy eating, including nutrition education classes, hands-on cooking demonstrations, and culturally relevant food tastings. The Coordinator engages with diverse audiences in welcoming and interactive ways, providing participants with practical skills and knowledge while inspiring long-term lifestyle changes. They also lead outreach activities that extend BWC's impact into the community, ensuring that program participants experience both education and food access. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, reliable, flexible, and a strong team player with excellent communication, customer service, and community engagement skills. They are capable of working under pressure, multitasking, tracking and reporting data, and meeting program deadlines, all while maintaining a positive and supportive presence. This position plays a key role in advancing BWC's mission to improve community wellness through food, education, and engagement. Key Responsibilities Facilitate The Happy Kitchen / La Cocina Cocina Alegre classes, demonstrations, and community tastings (Probaditas) at Farmers Markets, Fresco Mobile Markets, urban farms, community gardens, and other public events. Coordinate logistics for program activities, including preparation, setup/cleanup, and maintaining an organized inventory of tools and materials. Engage the community through events and outreach to promote programs, recruit participants, and build lasting relationships with vendors, partners, and residents. Track and report program activities, attendance, and outcomes; support the Program Manager with Pre/Post surveys and data reporting for grants and leadership. Maintain compliance with safety standards, certifications (Food Handler, CPR), and BWC policies while ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming workspace. Model professionalism, teamwork, and respect in all interactions, serving as a positive role model and ambassador for
BWC. OTHER SUPPORT
Collaborates with staff to support BWC's programs and supports the organization with other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalent; minimum 2 years of experience cooking/nutrition programs, community education, or a similar role. Experience with event coordination , including logistics, setup, and equipment use. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with strong skills in data entry, tracking, reporting, reporting, al and communication (written, verbal, digital) Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to outdoor/variable working conditions. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Basic knowledge of healthy eating and nutrition education. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required. Valid Texas Driver's License , auto insurance, and reliable transportation. Bilingual (English and Spanish) required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds regularly to move objects.
