We are seeking a creative & collaborative person with a contagious, motivated faith to lead our children and their families into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and to equip, encourage, and resource parents to raise their children in the faith. The position of Director of Children's Ministry will be a member of our energetic and highly motivated Family Ministries Team, and focus on all aspects of Children's Ministry (Kinder through 6th grade) including weekly programming & discipleship, equipping volunteer leaders, shaping opportunities for service, engagement with parents, and more. This position is responsible for developing, planning, coordinating and delivering programs and activities for children, as well as directing multiple community events throughout the year that provide touchpoints to our community neighbors. This position also includes an expectation of serving alongside our children & families, while focusing on reaching out and creating an environment of growth for new families with children. The Director of Children's Ministry will be a vital member of our team that focuses on loving God and loving people, as we seek to grow into our hopeful future. Children's Ministry Director Job Description First United Methodist Church of Arlington Overview The primary responsibilities of this part time position involve the coordination of all Children's Ministries under the mission of the church: loving God and loving neighbor . These ministries will be organized around the church's ministry strategy of: connection, compassion, collaboration . Overall Responsibilities The Director of Children's Ministries exists to provide for the spiritual growth of and to create and implement educational opportunities for elementary-aged children, their parents, and their families. The position is responsible for the development and implementation of vision, strategy, and all tactical elements for all programs, activities and educational aspects related to Children's Ministries at First United Methodist Church of Arlington. The position ensures that all necessary administrative and leadership tasks have been managed and completed and that all children's ministry programs have adhered to the MinistrySafe™ Policy of FUMC Arlington. Oversee and implement the vision for Children's Ministries that will allow God to become and stay an active and relevant center in the lives of our families.
Children's Ministry Responsibilities:
With the direction of the Family Ministry Director, help oversee the Children's Ministry programs and staff. Focus on all Children's Ministry including but not limited to: Children's Sermon, Academy Sunday School, Worship kits and worship participation for families, Confirmation, VBC, summer camps, mission camp, Easter Egg Hunt help, Trunk-or-Treat help, Christmas Eve Program, Bible BootCamp, Created by God, Mission Program, Children's Choirs/Bells, Acolytes, Glen Lake camp participation. The long range plans in Children's Ministries include: Implementing the scope and sequence for Kinder
6thgrade curriculum.
Implementing the transitional experiences so children can transition comfortably from one age level ministry to another, including a transition plan that bridges to the youth group. Continue the development of cross-generational missions. Continue the creation of radical hospitality experiences for all grade levels. Responsible for the nuts and bolts of our programming from Sunday School curriculum implementation, to volunteer coordination, etc. For Academy Sunday School, Worship needs, summer camp needs, etc: Oversee the selection, ordering and implementation of appropriate curriculum Oversee the selection and training of volunteers Recruit and maintain a Children's Council, scheduling regular meetings, preparing an agenda for meeting discussions, executing meetings. Prepare the annual budget for the Children's Ministry department. Support all children's activities. Attend board meetings, Children's Council, and Church Council. Be present on Sundays and other days where programming is held and supervise the volunteers that are teaching in these areas. Be the primary programming staff person responsible for the implementation of other Children's programs such as acolyte volunteers and training, 3rdgrade Bibles, Advent and Christmas Children's programming, and Lent and Easter programs and activities for children and their families, Egg Hunt, Trunk or Treat, mission activities, etc. Work with the Evangelism/Connecting Ministries Team to connect families with children 12 years of age and younger to ministries and service opportunities. Follow up with guest families.
Staff Responsibilities :
Attend staff meetings and all other church-related gatherings where the Director of Children's Ministries presence is required. Meet with staff weekly to plan events on the church calendar, identify needs that staff has, and resolve challenges and issues that occur. Participate in monthly meetings with Family Ministry staff to vision future opportunities, evaluate current practices, and work on collaborative ministry opportunities for hospitality, mission, transition, education, and evangelism. Maintain areas of information of interest regarding Children's Ministry; maintain supplies for Children's Ministry in the designated storage areas Complete and submit in timely manner required paperwork, such as Event Forms, to request space for programming, work orders, etc. Be available to assist with the teaching of Ministry Safe Policy trainings. Responsible for the check in area and software/hardware needs. Responsible for regular communication with parents and families, including online newsletter & social media pages. Worship Responsibilities Prepare Children's Time messages. Oversee Christmas Eve service for families. Organize and facilitate everything necessary for worship participation. Oversee acolyte scheduling and participation. Other duties as assigned. Care Responsibilities Hospital Visits
Participate in the hospital rotation as needed when children receive care. Counseling Visits
Talk with church members who are in crisis and need a listening ear. Attend various ministry opportunities to network with and support FUMCA family members. Organize and implement volunteer encouragement and appreciation Educational Responsibilities Help lead the confirmation class
Teach, recruit pastors and laity to teach, organize the service projects, plan the get-away retreat, recruit volunteers, host the confirmation banquet, and prepare the confirmation worship service.
Attend Glen Lake camps, retreats, and other trips with children and the designated staff. Coordinate volunteers. Organize mission opportunities for children Teach Academy Sunday school lessons for children. Professional Development Attend continuing education seminars to enhance the gifts given for ministry.
