The admissions team at Kalamazoo plays a vital role in sustaining the life of the College, and we take a collaborative, student-centered, and relationship-driven approach to recruiting a talented, diverse, and dynamic student body. This position blends relationship management with elements of sales, marketing, and guest experience. Successful counselors are natural connectors who enjoy guiding students through important decisions, can communicate the value of the K-Plan with confidence and authenticity, and understand how to tailor their message to the needs and interests of each student and family. The primary role of the Admission Counselor is to build relationships with students and their families, alumni, school counselors, and members of the campus community. Counselors will represent the College and its distinctive K-Plan, commitment to the liberal arts and sciences, and exceptional community. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position. The salary will be determined at the time of offer. The posted pay range is Indeed-calculated. This Role Involves This position is highly front-facing and include territory management responsibilities focused on the recruitment, selection, and enrollment of prospective students from assigned geographic regions. Candidates should be confident travelers, comfortable representing the College in various settings, and eager to build meaningful connections with students, families, and school counselors. This role requires a strong sales mindset, engaging prospective students, understanding their needs, and effectively communicating the value of Kalamazoo College. Counselors must be comfortable making fast-paced decisions as they manage a high volume of applications, outreach, and follow-up during peak periods. The position also involves high-touch communication through frequent one-on-one and group interactions—both in person and virtually—with a wide range of audiences. Additionally, counselors play a key role in creating a welcoming, informative, and memorable campus visit experience, ensuring every guest feels supported and valued. Travel is a key component of the role, including several weeks between August and November, one to two weeks in March and April, and additional travel as needed. Evening and weekend work will also be required at times. In addition to travel, team members will regularly engage with prospective students and families outside regular office hours, support on- and off-campus events, and participate in special recruitment programs.
Location & Schedule:
This role is conducted in person and is housed in the Office of Admission. Office hours are Monday through Friday. This is an exempt position; therefore, hours may vary depending on job responsibilities and seasonal demands.
Who We Are Seeking:

Qualifications The successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree. The person will also demonstrate many, but necessarily all, of the following skills, abilities, and characteristics. Desire to contribute to a positive, energetic, and high-functioning team Knowledge of and enthusiasm for a liberal arts and sciences education Ability to establish rapport with a wide variety of people Demonstrated excellence in writing, oral communication, and presentations Bilingual (Spanish) preferred Ability to compose and edit correspondence with tact and diplomacy Competence in information technology and electronic communication High level of competency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new software; experience with Technolutions Slate is a plus Strong organizational and planning skills Critical reasoning, sound judgment, and ability to maintain confidentiality Familiarity with MIAA, NCAA, and NACAC ethical guidelines Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Successful completion of a criminal background check Ability to stand for extended periods, walk, lift up to 25 pounds, and perform related physical tasks Kalamazoo College is a community of students, faculty, staff, and alumni who are committed to making an exceptional place to learn, live, and work.
