About Y2 Academy Parsippany & Bridgewater Y2 Academy is an established SAT preparation center serving families across Morris and Somerset counties for over a decade, known for small-group instruction and structured, results-driven programs. We are launching a full college counseling and admissions service — and we are looking for the counselor who will lead it.
This is a ground-floor opportunity:
you will shape the counseling program's process, work directly with motivated students and engaged families, and grow with the program as it expands. Many of our counseling families come from our existing SAT programs, so you will begin with warm relationships rather than a cold start. What you will do
Guide students (grades 9-12) through the full college admissions process, from initial roadmap through final decision
Build balanced college lists (reach / match / safety) grounded in academic fit, student goals, and net-price awareness
Advise on application strategy, including Early Decision / Early Action / Regular Decision timing
Coach students through the Common App personal statement and supplemental essays — guiding their authentic voice, never ghostwriting
Review course selection and extracurricular strategy for underclassmen on multi-year plans
Lead parent meetings and maintain clear milestone visibility so families always know where their student stands
Conduct interview preparation and support financial aid conversations (specialist referral available for
FAFSA/CSS
depth)
Collaborate with the Center Director on program design, cohort caps, and the counseling curriculum Who we are looking for Required (at least one of the following):
Former admissions officer experience at a college or university
High school counseling experience with direct college advising responsibilities
Independent Educational Consultant experience, ideally with IECA or HECA membership
A college counseling certificate (e.g., UCLA or UC Irvine College Counseling Certificate) plus relevant advising experience Also required:
Excellent written feedback skills — essay coaching is a core part of this role
Comfort presenting to and building trust with parents
Familiarity with the Common App, current testing landscape (Digital SAT/ACT), and
ED/EA/RD
timelines
Bachelor's degree
Preferred:
Experience advising for selective admissions, BS/MD pathways, or specialty tracks (arts, athletics)
Bilingual ability valued by our community (e.g., Gujarati, Hindi, Mandarin, Korean, Spanish)
Experience with counseling CRM tools or willingness to work within our milestone-tracking system Why this role
Lead a new program rather than inherit someone else's caseload
Small, protected cohort sizes — depth over volume
An established brand, a decade of family relationships, and marketing already in motion
Direct collaboration with an owner-operator who closes enrollments personally and will support your work with families How to apply Along with your resume, we would welcome a short note describing one student admissions situation you are proud of navigating (no identifying details) — it tells us more than a cover letter.
