WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Westchester County Department of Health Port Chester, NY Job Details Part-time $17 an hour 23 hours ago Qualifications Spanish Records maintenance English Breastfeeding support Peer support advocacy Full Job Description The Westchester County Department of Health has an immediate opening for a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to provide basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to pregnant and breastfeeding participants This is a part-time paraprofessional position based primarily at the WIC Program, Port Chester site. • Flexible, part-time schedule (14 hrs/week) during WIC Clinic operating hours
• Meaningful, mission-driven work supporting families in your community
• Bilingual Spanish/English speakers are strongly encouraged to apply What You'll Do
• Provide basic breastfeeding information, encouragement, and support by phone and in person at the WIC clinic
• Help participants work through common breastfeeding concerns and barriers
• Follow up regularly with an assigned caseload of WIC participants
• Assist with prenatal classes and breastfeeding support groups
• Refer participants to WIC nutritionists or the Breastfeeding Coordinator, as needed
• Keep accurate, confidential records of contacts
• Attend trainings, monthly staff meetings, and breastfeeding conferences/workshops What You'll Need
• Have breastfed at least one baby (does not need to be current)
• Enthusiasm for breastfeeding and helping other parents succeed
• Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
