This role is that constant — from the very first call to the first real step toward a new life. Who We Are... For 34 years, Serene Harbor has served survivors of domestic violence across Brevard County, offering emergency shelter, a 24/7 confidential hotline, counseling, transportation, relocation assistance, support groups, legal advocacy, and outreach. Our mission is to end the cycle of domestic violence in our community through education, empowerment, intervention, prevention, social change, advocacy, and the engagement of everyone around us. The Role... As a Domestic Violence Advocate, you'll provide comprehensive, trauma-informed advocacy through crisis response on the helpline. You'll answer helpline calls with empathy and a steady voice, assessing each caller's immediate needs, level of lethality, and safety planning, and providing resources. You'll report to the Shelter Director and grow through ongoing training. We invest in our advocates. You'll complete 30 hours of DCF Domestic Violence competency-based training (including 6 hours of on-the-job training in your first 30 days), the Florida hotline curriculum with role-play evaluation, and complete 16 hours of continuing domestic violence training each year. Who we're hoping to meet... You lead with compassion and stay grounded when emotions run high. You bring a high school diploma or equivalent and, ideally, experience with domestic violence survivors or other vulnerable populations. You're organized, meet deadlines, and are comfortable with Microsoft Office and Google Suite. You communicate in a supportive, compassionate, non-judgmental way, and you can problem-solve and de-escalate even in the hardest moments. Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are a real plus. You'll need to pass a Level 2 federal background check with fingerprints and be willing to work a flexible schedule because, above all, this work calls for a genuine passion for helping survivors.
