A caring and organized individual is needed to serve as a Companion/House Manager for a family in Lake Forest, IL. The role involves supporting their 19-year-old son with special needs, managing household tasks, and ensuring a positive environment. Candidates must have experience working specifically with school-age children or youth and have prior in-home caregiving experience. This full-time position offers the opportunity to build a meaningful relationship with a young adult while maintaining an organized and supportive household.
Responsibilities:
Provide companionship and support to this young man encouraging his independence and engaging him in activities such as music, video games, Tae Kwon Do, and managing responsibilities like serving as a football team manager. Drive him to his transition program, extracurricular activities, and appointments. Assist with household management tasks including laundry, grocery shopping, errands, tidying common areas, household organization projects, maintaining supplies, scheduling service providers, vehicle maintenance coordination, and transporting pets to veterinary visits. Create a positive environment that fosters growth and independence.
Qualifications:
Candidates must have proven experience working with school-age children or youth with developmental disabilities such as Down syndrome and have worked in an in-home setting. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, dependable, kind, patient, energetic, and able to work independently. A valid driver's license and confidence in managing household responsibilities are required. Comfort around large pets is necessary due to the family's dogs. Excellent communication skills and sound judgment are essential. A minimum two-year commitment is preferred.
