Job Description:

The MCLA Volunteer Center Program Coordinator is a student leadership position responsible for developing meaningful civic engagement opportunities that connect MCLA students with the North Adams community and surrounding Berkshire County organizations. Program Coordinators will take ownership of planning, implementing, and evaluating volunteer initiatives while recruiting and mentoring fellow student volunteers. Opportunities are available in several program areas, allowing students to match their interests and strengths with community needs. Position Opportunities 1. After-School Program Coordinator The After-School Program Coordinator develops and facilitates engaging educational and enrichment programs for local youth through community partnerships.

Potential program areas include:

Dungeons & Dragons (must have experience serving as a Dungeon Master) Storytelling and Literacy Book Club Arts and Crafts STEM Activities Sports and Recreation Leadership Development Homework Assistance Additional enrichment programs based on student interests and community needs Responsibilities Design and implement a weekly lesson plan for assigned after-school program(s). Create age-appropriate educational and recreational activities. Recruit, train, and coordinate MCLA student volunteers to assist with weekly programming. Lead activities while creating an engaging, inclusive, and welcoming environment. Maintain attendance and basic program documentation. Communicate regularly with Volunteer Center staff regarding program needs and progress. Evaluate programming and recommend improvements throughout the semester. Required Background Clearance Students selected for after-school programming must successfully complete all required background screenings prior to beginning work, including: CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) SORI (Sex Offender Registry Information) Fingerprinting (if required by the partnering school district) Employment within school-based programs cannot begin until all required clearances have been completed and approved. 2. Community Volunteer Program Coordinator The Community Volunteer Program Coordinator develops volunteer opportunities that address community needs while providing meaningful service experiences for MCLA students. Responsibilities Recruit MCLA students for volunteer opportunities throughout North Adams and surrounding communities. Develop weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly volunteer initiatives. Build relationships with nonprofit organizations, schools, municipalities, and community partners. Coordinate volunteer registration and communication. Track participation and volunteer hours. Promote volunteer opportunities through social media, campus outreach, and tabling events. Assist with larger campus-wide service initiatives, including Days of Service and special volunteer events. Evaluate volunteer experiences and collect participant feedback.

Requirements:

General Responsibilities (All Program Coordinators) Serve as an ambassador for the MCLA Volunteer Center. Demonstrate professionalism when representing MCLA within the community. Attend required staff meetings and trainings. Assist with Volunteer Center recruitment efforts. Collaborate with fellow Program Coordinators on campus-wide initiatives. Preferred Qualifications Current MCLA student in good academic standing. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Passion for community service and civic engagement. Experience working with children (preferred for After-School Program Coordinators). For Dungeons & Dragons programming, applicants should have experience serving as a Dungeon Master.
