Duties/Responsibilities:

The Counselor position provides counseling assistance to persons with substance use disorders, which complies with current professional and regulatory standards for the profession. This dynamic, internally motivated professional will oversee the emotional and behavioral well-being of our clients by establishing rapport, systematically gathering data, determining the readiness of the client for treatment and change, applying accepted criteria for diagnosis of substance use disorders, and developing and implementing a comprehensive strength-based therapeutic plan for each client. Collaborates with other behavioral health team members in diagnosis and individual treatment planning by applying specialized skills, knowledge and experience of human development and behaviors and social, economic, and cultural systems in directly assisting clients, families and groups to improve or restore their capacity for social functioning. Provides individual, group and family counseling with the use of psychosocial interventions and psychotherapy, documents services in the clinical record, engages in inter-departmental care coordination, and documents treatment plan outcomes. Demonstrates commitment to, and application of, professional code of ethics for his/her credentials/professional status.

Qualifications:

Certified. Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with persons with substance use disorders. Has thorough knowledge of clinical assessment methods and individual and group therapy techniques, and thorough knowledge of residential treatment programs. Good facilitation skills that enables them to participate as effective team members in a treatment program. Understanding of human behavior and the processes required to facilitate change. Must have excellent writing skills as well as the ability to produce comprehensive narrative reports including measurable objectives. Must have excellent skills in verbal communication as well as good organization and time management skills. Must have familiarity and competency with the computer (i.e., emails, client data entry, etc.). Must be customer service oriented with a professional attitude.

Additional Requirements:

CPR/First Aid certified, TB test, Health Screen, and pass background check and drug screen. Prefer individuals who have maintained at least three (3) years of sobriety (if in personal recovery). Knowledge regarding the disease concept of alcoholism/drug addiction. Experience in working with dually diagnosed clients. Assess client's strengths, needs, abilities and preferences; formulates a diagnostic impression based on current DSM and ASAM criteria; and in conjunction with the client develops a workable plan for treatment. Investigate case situations and presents information to members of clinical team, on client's family and social background pertinent to diagnosis and treatment. Complete treatment plans, discharge summaries and other chart related documents and correspondence for assigned clients in a timely manner. Provide individual counseling and facilitate educational and counseling groups assigned and promptly chart these activities in the client's records. Select approach to use in individual therapy such as directive, nondirective, and supportive therapy and plans frequency, intensity, and duration of therapy. Facilitate skill building psycho-educational and/or support groups. Work cooperatively with other community resources and referral sources to coordinate services to clients. Strive to increase professional growth and effectiveness through training and by keeping abreast of current trends and theories in relevant areas. Maintain compliance through company required trainings. Maintains appropriate state license/registration/certification for scope of practice. Ensure standards set by regulatory and accreditation agencies are met. Maintain a professional, ethical relationship with other staff, clients, and the general public. Perform other duties and responsibilities as delegated by Supervisor.
