The Graduate Mental Health Counseling Program is a 60-credit professional training program. Graduates of this New York State Education Department Office of Professions (NYSEDOP) licensure-qualifying program meet the educational requirements for licensure as a Mental Health Counselor. Our curriculum is grounded in social justice and committed to training culturally humble clinicians who can meet the growing needs of the diverse Long Island and New York City client population. In addition to these values being evident throughout our courses, we require students to complete coursework in Psychosocial and Cultural Perspectives and a Multicultural Counseling Lab. Our diverse student body is trained to understand and utilize their intersectional identities in clinically meaningful ways. Responsibilities include teaching graduate-level courses in the Mental Health Counseling program, providing clinical supervision as appropriate, advising and mentoring students, participating in program assessment and accreditation activities, and contributing to program administration and service. The standard teaching load for this position is four courses per semester (4/4 load). We especially welcome candidates whose professional activities demonstrate a strong commitment to social justice concerns and who value teaching in a public institution with a racially, ethnically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse student population. The department is strongly committed to faculty diversity, consistent with the university's mission. The Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Mental Health Counseling is housed in the Psychology Department, which is the largest undergraduate major at the College, offering Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees in Psychology. Old Westbury is a comprehensive college in the SUNY system and is one of the country's most culturally and academically diverse campuses. It is located on 600 acres of forested rolling hills on the North Shore of Long Island, less than one hour from New York City.
