The Licensed Counselor provides professional mental health counseling services to individuals, couples, families, and groups in alignment within the mission and values of the Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley. The counselor is responsible for conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, providing therapeutic interventions, facilitating support and educational groups, and delivering parenting education classes. The counselor also collaborates with agency staff and community partners to promote emotional wellness, family stability, healthy relationships, and self-sufficiency among clients served by the organization. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Individual and Family Counseling Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments and screenings. Develop individualized treatment plans that address client needs and goals. Provide individual, family, and couples counseling services utilizing evidence-based therapeutic practices. Assist clients in developing coping skills, emotional regulation, communication skills, and problem-solving strategies. Monitor client progress and modify treatment plans as needed. Provide crisis intervention and risk assessments when necessary. Make referrals to community resources and specialized services as appropriate. Group Counseling and Educational Programs Develop and facilitate therapeutic support groups for adults, families, and special populations. Plan and conduct parenting education classes focused on child development, positive discipline, family communication, and healthy family relationships. Documentation and Compliance Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records. Complete assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and attendance records. Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations, licensing standards, funding requirements, and agency policies. Collaboration and Community Engagement Work closely with case managers, social workers, parish representatives, and community partners to coordinate services. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case consultations. Educate community members on available counseling and family support services. Support outreach efforts that increase awareness of mental health and family strengthening programs. Professional Development Maintain current professional licensure and required continuing education credits. Attend staff meetings, trainings, clinical supervision, and professional development opportunities. Stay informed of best practices in counseling, family systems, trauma-informed care, and parenting education. Qualifications Education Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field from an accredited institution. Licensure Must possess and maintain a current, unrestricted license in the State of Texas, such as: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) Experience Minimum of two years of counseling experience preferred. Experience facilitating group counseling or educational workshops. Experience providing parenting education and family-focused interventions preferred. Experience working within a nonprofit, faith-based, or community service setting preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of counseling theories, interventions, and ethical practices. Ability to facilitate both therapeutic and educational groups. Strong understanding of family systems and child development. Knowledge of trauma-informed and culturally responsive care. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. Strong organizational and documentation abilities. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and community stakeholders. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, and use standard office equipment for extended periods. Ability to facilitate group sessions and community presentations. Occasional local travel may be required. Pay:
