Child Care Center Director
Job Description
Primary Purpose The Child Care Center Director provides overall leadership, administration, and operational management of the Wayne Community College Child Care Center. The Director is responsible for regulatory compliance, fiscal management, personnel supervision, enrollment and family services, child health and safety, program quality, and the effective daily operation of the Center. The Director works collaboratively with Early Childhood Education faculty to support the Center's role as a clinical learning environment for WCC students. Position Duties Direct and oversee the daily operations of the Child Care Center in accordance with North Carolina child care licensing requirements, College policies, and established standards of practice. Maintain a safe, clean, sanitary, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment that supports the health, safety, growth, and development of children. Ensure ongoing regulatory compliance, including required records, documentation, inspections, reporting, corrective actions, and maintenance of the Center's five-star rating. Develop, administer, and monitor the Center's operating budget, including enrollment, tuition revenue, expenditures, staffing costs, purchasing, and other financial activities. Supervise, evaluate, and provide leadership to Child Care Center personnel, including participation in recruitment, selection, onboarding, training, and employee development. Develop staff schedules and ensure appropriate staffing coverage and compliance with required adult-to-child ratios. Oversee enrollment, admissions, retention, and management of the Center's waiting list to support effective classroom utilization and program sustainability. Develop, implement, and evaluate programs and activities that support children's learning, growth, development, and overall well-being. Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and families; address concerns and complaints and ensure appropriate communication regarding children's care, safety, and incidents. Coordinate with Early Childhood Education faculty to support student practicum experiences, observations, and laboratory activities while ensuring compliance with licensing requirements and child safety standards. Develop, implement, and recommend revisions to Center policies and procedures and ensure staff are informed of applicable requirements and expectations. Perform other duties as assigned in support of the successful operation of the Child Care Center. Position Requirements A bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education, Business Administration, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution is required. Five years of progressively responsible experience in early childhood education or child care, including a combination of teaching, administrative, supervisory, or management experience. Experience working in a licensed child care facility preferred. Experience with child care center administration, including personnel supervision, budgeting, enrollment, recordkeeping, and regulatory compliance, preferred. North Carolina Early Care and Education Administrator Credential Level II required; Level III preferred. Current First Aid and CPR certification required. Basic computer skills and the ability to use standard office and administrative technology. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with children, families, faculty, staff, students, and external regulatory agencies. Physical Demands Ability to perform the physical activities necessary to effectively supervise and operate a childcare center, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and moving throughout classrooms, offices, playgrounds, and other Center environments. Ability to work at children's physical level, including sitting on the floor, kneeling, bending, and transitioning between floor and standing positions as necessary. Ability to safely lift, carry, or physically assist children and move classroom materials, supplies, and equipment as necessary to support Center operations and respond to emergency situations. Visual ability sufficient to effectively supervise children; observe activities and interactions; recognize potential hazards, injuries, illness, or other safety concerns; read written and electronic information; and monitor indoor and outdoor environments. Ability to perform duties both indoors and outdoors and to respond promptly to situations involving the health, safety, and supervision of children. Ability to use hands and arms to handle materials, equipment, records, and other items associated with childcare and administrative operations. Conditions of Employment Employment is contingent upon successful completion of required criminal background checks and drug screening. Must maintain required North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE) credentials and certifications. Must maintain an annual medical statement from a licensed physician or health professional confirming the ability to care for children and complete required annual tuberculosis (TB) screening. Must complete required annual Bloodborne Pathogens training and maintain compliance with all applicable DCDEE requirements. Supplemental Information Unofficial transcripts from all degree-granting, institutions must be electronically attached to your application or submitted to Human Resources before being considered for an interview. To be considered, all degrees must be awarded by a regionally accredited institution recognized by the United States Department of Education. Official transcripts for all coursework and degrees will be required within 30 days of hire.
Foreign Degrees:
Foreign degree evaluations must be attached in lieu of transcripts for degrees earned outside the United States. Transcripts from foreign institutions will not be considered alone.
