One infant, approximately three months old at the start of the position

Compensation:

$30-$35/hour DOE. The family is committed to offering competitive compensation based on the selected candidate's experience, qualifications, and overall fit.

Benefits:

35 guaranteed hours per week, paid time off, paid sick leave, paid federal holidays, mileage reimbursement for work-related driving, and legal household employment as a W-2 employee through a payroll service.

Occasional flexibility for a late evening may be requested with advance notice but is not expected to be a regular part of the schedule. Driving is not expected to be a regular responsibility initially but may become part of the position as the child grows. Any approved work-related mileage driven in the nanny's personal vehicle will be reimbursed.

They also visit Canada regularly to spend time with extended family. One parent is a physician who plays an active role in supporting Whidbey Island's healthcare community. The other is an engineer who works off-island several days each week and from home approximately two days per week. The nanny and child will have their own space while the parent is working remotely. The family also includes two adult children in college from a previous marriage, and their visits home are always a highlight. As a blended and diverse family, the parents have created an accepting home centered around kindness, respect, open communication, and thoughtful discussion. The family shares its home with an energetic but exceptionally gentle and lovable Aussiedoodle. If the dog and nanny develop a comfortable relationship, the dog may remain home approximately two days per week. About Their Son The family's son will be approximately three months old when the position begins. His days will initially center around feeding, sleeping, awake time, and beginning to engage with the people and environment around him. The family hopes to find a caregiver who loves working with infants and understands the importance of consistency, observation, responsiveness, and nurturing interaction during these early months. Maintaining a flexible but dependable rhythm for feedings, naps, and awake time will be an important part of the position. The nanny will also read, sing, play, spend time outside, introduce age-appropriate developmental activities, and support each new milestone as the child grows. The family would appreciate a caregiver who proactively shares photos, milestones, observations, and brief updates so they can remain connected to their son's day. Their Home & Whidbey Island The family lives on a quiet five-acre property near town, providing a peaceful environment with abundant opportunities for fresh air, walks, and outdoor exploration. One parent has lived on Whidbey Island for approximately 20 years, while the other has called the island home for six. They enjoy exploring its trails and beaches, and the family also enjoys salmon fishing. Beyond the island's natural beauty, the family values its strong sense of community and exceptionally kind people. Their home offers parking and dedicated space for the nanny and child. Public transportation is also available approximately one-half mile away. Their Parenting Style The family describes its parenting approach as gentle while recognizing the importance of appropriate structure and boundaries. As their son grows, they want him to learn through play and interaction with his environment while having thoughtful guardrails in place to keep him safe. The Opportunity This is an intentionally childcare-focused position centered on providing exceptional care for one infant in a safe, nurturing, and developmentally supportive environment. The child's days will initially include feedings, naps, diaper changes, tummy time, reading, singing, outdoor walks, and age-appropriate developmental play. As he grows, the nanny will introduce new experiences that support his physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and language development. The nanny will record important details such as feedings and diaper changes in a notebook or app and communicate openly with the parents regarding the child's routine, development, and well-being. As the child gets older, the position may expand to include driving him to parks, playgroups, appointments, and other age-appropriate activities. The family and nanny will discuss the timing and expectations before driving becomes a regular responsibility. This is not a household assistant position. The nanny will clean up after themselves and the child, wash bottles and child-related dishes, and maintain his immediate care and play spaces. Once he begins eating solid foods, the family plans to have his food prepared for the nanny to serve. General family housekeeping, household management, errands, and unrelated household responsibilities are not part of the role. The overwhelming majority of each day should be dedicated to the child's care and development.
