Job Description

TITLE:

Protestant Chaplain

DIVISION

Mission and Ministry

DEPARTMENT

Campus Ministry

BASIC FUNCTION

Provides worship opportunities and pastoral care to the Protestant community of students, faculty and staff at the University. Works collaboratively with full-time campus ministers and chaplains of other faith traditions on office initiatives and programs, especially in pursuit of interfaith ministry.

UNUSUAL WORK CONDITIONS

Occasional evenings and weekends required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL NEEDED
EDUCATION:

Master's degree required. Ordination in a recognized ecclesial community, preferred.

EXPERIENCE

1-5 years of campus ministry or related background.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Based on student interest and need, to provide an ecumenical worship service for the Protestant community of students, faculty, and staff at the University. 2. To provide pastoral care for members of the campus community, especially for those who identify as Christian.

This involves:
  • offering Bible study sessions
  • moderating the Christian Student Fellowship, a weekly student organization under the umbrella of Campus Ministry
  • engaging in intentional one-on-one meetings
  • providing counseling to students, faculty, and staff
  • addressing spiritual and social issues which impact the campus
  • responding to community crises and emergencies as appropriate 3.

To work collaboratively with other campus ministers and chaplains on Campus Ministry initiatives, and especially in service of developing interfaith ministry opportunities for the campus. 4. To participate in the professional development of the Campus Ministry department.

This involves:
  • promoting an image of efficiency and courtesy throughout the University community, consistent with the Campus Ministry mission.
  • working with the Director of Campus Ministry & University Chaplain to manage budgetary needs and expenses.
  • attending monthly staff meetings, monthly divisional meetings, and bi-monthly supervision meetings with the Director of Campus Ministry & University Chaplain.

5. To perform other related duties as directed or dictated by responsibilities. Duties may be changed and/or be added at any time.
