  • $23,000 a year 19 hours ago Benefits Paid time off Flexible schedule Qualifications Google Workspace Teamwork Bachelor's degree Attention to detail Youth ministry Organizational skills Working with youth Full Job Description Overview Christ Episcopal Church Kensington, a vibrant and welcoming church in suburban Maryland, seeks an enthusiastic, spiritually grounded and theologically progressive individual to join our ministry team and reinvigorate our Youth Program for 6th•12th grade youth, focusing initially on 6th•9th grades.
The Youth Minister will collaborate with church volunteers and staff to help young people experience the transformative power of Jesus' way of love through worship, service, education, and community.
KEY MINISTRY RESPONSIBILITIES
Identify, develop, or adapt and implement a curriculum for Sunday morning youth faith formation (grades 6
  • 9 now; through grade 12 in the years to come) Plan and conduct Youth Group activities, including regular formation or youth group opportunities (Sunday or another day), monthly gatherings (social, community service, or advocacy for justice), and an annual service trip.
Lead the program so that youth are seen, heard, and experienced as fully integrated members of the Christ Church community.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Congregational
  • Serve as the primary contact person for youth and their families
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to youth
  • Help recruit and encourage adult volunteers
  • Promote leadership of youth in the congregation and beyond
  • Periodically participate in leading worship and encourage youth to do so Staff Work collaboratively with church staff & participate in weekly staff meetings Prepare and update reports on the ministry as needed Monitor ministry budget and resources allocated to the youth ministry Maintain church policy of Safe Church and the prevention of sexual abuse, including completing Safeguarding God's Children Community Become familiar with community resources and opportunities for youth and families outside the walls of Christ Church
CORE COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
Spiritual and personal maturity Adaptability and flexibility in problem solving and effective collaboration skills Excellent oral and written communication skills including comfort with speaking in front of a group Organization, timeliness, and attention to detail Ability to lead and communicate the Gospel in ways that are engaging and relevant to young people, to share one's own faith journey, and to minister to youth and their families Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and justice, with strong moral and ethical leadership in line with following the way of Jesus Knowledge of the values and practices of the Episcopal Church (or willingness to learn) Technical experience across technical platforms including, but not limited to: MS Office, Google Workspace, Meta Suite, email marketing software (e.g., Constant Contact), social media Self-starter with strong organizational skills, demonstrated ability to design and manage projects, programs, and initiatives and to work independently with minimal direction
EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in religion, theology, youth ministry, or related fields, such as teaching or counseling, or at least 3 years' experience working with youth and/or in youth ministry.
TYPICAL HOURLY EXPECTATIONS PER WEEK
(15 hours total) While hours will be flexible based on activities, in addition to time for planning, communication, special events and projects, the job requires 4 hours on Sunday morning, 3 hours for weekly staff meeting & collaboration, and occasional time on weekends for activities.
