Job Description

Duties Description Greater Binghamton Health Center (GBHC) is recruiting for Social Work Assistant Trainee to provide case management and service coordination activities for individuals with mental illness. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply. As a Social Work Assistant Trainee at GBHC, you will work with an interdisciplinary team and duties will include: Interviewing individuals and their families to gather background information Preparing case histories and determining eligibility for services Advocating and assisting individuals in identifying and obtaining services Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (NY HELPS) program if they have a bachelor's degree in a human service field. Appointment to the full-performance title of Social Work Assistant 1 requires both a bachelor's degree in a human services field and one year of social work experience.
Substitution:
Master's degree in social work can substitute for 1 year of specialized experience. OR Candidates from within State Service can be considered transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. The Social Work Assistant Traineeship is 1-year in length at the Salary Grade - 12. After the successful completion of the 1-year traineeship, trainees will advance to the full performance Social Work Assistant 1 level at Salary Grade -14 if their performance is considered satisfactory. If appointed, you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide to your employer a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES); and otherwise actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for your services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid. If you are appointed and lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment. Some positions may require additional credentials or a background check to verify your identity.
