For over 57 years, Avenidas has been a trusted partner for older adults and their families, providing essential programs and services that support enrichment and connection, across the mid-Peninsula. Avenidas is committed to helping older adults and their families navigate aging with confidence and dignity. Position Overview Avenidas seeks a dynamic, organized Volunteer Coordinator to grow and strengthen the Avenidas Volunteer Corps. This role supports all aspects of the volunteer experience, from recruiting and onboarding to training, scheduling, and day-to-day support, while working closely with program teams to match volunteer talent where it's needed most. Central to our "One Avenidas" approach, this position ensures volunteers are woven into the fabric of every department to maximize their impact. Essential Responsibilities Volunteer Recruitment & Outreach
  • 20% Develop and implement volunteer recruitment strategies Manage online postings and community outreach efforts Coordinate with outreach specialist to represent Avenidas at events, fairs, and partner organizations Onboarding & Training
  • 20% Screen, interview, and onboard new volunteers Coordinate background checks and documentation Lead orientation sessions and support ongoing training Program Coordination
  • 20% Partner with program managers to assess volunteer needs for agency Match volunteers with appropriate roles across departments Coordinate scheduling and ensure volunteer coverage events Maintain accurate volunteer records, hours, and impact metrics Generate reports for internal use, grants, and leadership Volunteer Engagement & Support
  • 20% Serve as primary point of contact for volunteers Provide guidance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure positive experiences Foster an inclusive and welcoming volunteer culture Recognition & Retention
  • 20% Plan annual volunteer appreciation event with program director Maintain regular communication with volunteers via newsletters or updates Gather feedback to improve volunteer experiences through outreach and/or surveys Qualifications Experience in volunteer coordination or program coordination Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to manage multiple priorities across programs Experience working with diverse populations, including older adults, preferred Proficiency with databases and/or volunteer management systems preferred Experience in nonprofit or community-based programs Experience with outreach, events, or partnership development Bilingual or multilingual skills a plus, but not required•Mandarin or Spanish preferred Physical Demands & Requirements Duties may require weekend hours once per month.
Frequent stand/walk, sit, use a computer, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation. Occasionally reach/work above shoulders, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp forcefully, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, write by hand, sort/file paperwork.
Compensation and Benefits Hourly range:
$31.50
