POSITION SUMMARY

The Housing Navigator (HN) supports individuals and families experiencing homelessness or housing instability by assisting them in locating, securing, and maintaining safe and affordable housing. In direct service to households enrolled in the Rapid Re-Housing (RRH) program and Domestic Violence-Rapid Re-housing program. This position builds relationships with landlords and property managers, helps consumers overcome housing barriers, and coordinates with case management and community partners to promote long-term housing stability in alignment with Housing First principles.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct housing needs assessments and develop individualized housing service plans. Support consumers in locating housing, completing applications, and preparing for landlord interviews. Recruit and maintain relationships with landlords and property managers. Coordinate with case managers, housing providers, and community resources to support placements. Provide coaching on budgeting, rental readiness, and communication with landlords. Conduct rent reasonableness determinations and calculate participant rent contributions per HUD. Enter consumer data and outcomes into HMIS and agency databases. Advocate with landlords to reduce barriers for consumers and uphold Housing First principles. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, or related field (or equivalent experience). Minimum 2 years' experience in case management, homelessness services, or landlord engagement. Knowledge of housing systems, tenant rights, and fair housing laws. Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills. Domestic Violence Advocate Certification, or commitment to complete after hire. Trauma-Informed Care Certification/Training, or commitment to complete after hire. Experience with rent calculation and financial assistance processes. Proficiency in HMIS or case management databases preferred. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required. Demonstrated experience working with and sensitivity to individuals from varying sociodemographic backgrounds, including the LGBTQIA+ community, HIV- affected, domestic violence, seniors, and individuals with substance use. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

ESSENTIAL ABILITIES

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite applications (email, calendar, drive, docs, etc.). Possess superb oral and written communication skills. Ability to maintain client records, including case notes, treatment plans, collateral contacts, etc. Strong time management and organizational skills. Strong advocacy and relationship-building skills. Commitment to Housing First and trauma-informed care. Cultural humility and ability to work with diverse populations while maintaining professional boundaries. Ability to manage crises and de-escalate conflicts. Highly resourceful team player with the ability to be extremely effective independently. Proven ability to be flexible and to work in a fast-changing environment. Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response. Demonstrated ability to achieve high-performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
