In this role, you will provide vital support to individuals struggling with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Your energetic approach will help motivate clients towards recovery, utilizing evidence-based practices such as psychotherapy, motivational interviewing, and behavioral therapy. Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive client assessments to determine needs, risks, and treatment goals, adhering to clinical documentation standards and DSM-5 diagnostic criteria. Deliver individual and group counseling sessions utilizing evidence-based practices including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral health techniques, and addiction counseling strategies. Implement crisis intervention protocols and crisis management procedures to ensure client safety during acute episodes. Maintain accurate medical documentation, electronic health records (EHR), and case management records while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality standards. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on patient care plans, conduct diagnostic evaluations, and participate in case management activities for clients with co-occurring disorders. Support data collection efforts related to patient progress, treatment outcomes, and research initiatives aimed at improving clinical practices. Requirements Certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor or equivalent credential from an accredited program. Recent completion of relevant coursework or training in psychotherapy, addiction medicine, mental health counseling, or related fields. Knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and clinical documentation standards. Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions is preferred but not required; training provided for entry-level candidates. Strong skills in motivational interviewing, crisis intervention, client assessment, and behavioral therapy techniques. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations across different cultural backgrounds within community and hospital settings. Excellent communication skills for client engagement, documentation accuracy, and team collaboration. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems, medical terminology, and legal requirements such as HIPAA regulations is highly desirable.
