Hiring Agency Education & Labor Cabinet | Department of Workforce Development Location 600 W Cedar St Louisville, KY 40202 USA Description The Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet advances education, workforce development, and economic opportunity across the Commonwealth. The Cabinet provides education and training programs, employment and reemployment services, unemployment insurance, and disability determination services to help Kentuckians gain skills, find work, and maintain economic stability. It partners with education providers, workforce boards, and employers to align training with labor market needs and oversees labor programs that promote fair and safe workplaces. The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation empowers individuals with disabilities to maximize employment, achieve economic self-sufficiency and independence, and to contribute back to society. We also help businesses and employers recruit, retain, and accommodate employees with disabilities. We are seeking a Voc Rehab Counselor to perform professional vocational rehabilitation services including eligibility determination, guidance and counseling, and caseload management oversight for persons with disabilities who are seeking gainful employment; and performs other duties as required.
Key Responsibilities:
Provides vocational counseling; assesses consumers, collects, evaluates and interprets medical, psychological, vocational and other reports to determine eligibility for services and in determining needs for vocational rehabilitation services for consumers to prepare for, enter into or retain employment; coordinates appointments for consumers. Assures job placement is consistent with consumers' unique strengths, abilities and interests and coordinates job coaching and other services needed from professionals. Plans and coordinates the delivery of vocational rehabilitation services based on assessments and Individual Plans for Employment (IPE); provides consumers with information concerning services, service providers, responsibilities and terms; monitors caseload budgets; assesses the need for rehabilitation technology. Develops and maintains case documentation; interprets and applies agency policies and procedures and state and federal laws; enters data in the Case Management System; travels throughout the district to provide services to consumers. Develops referrals and performs basic public relation functions and partners with organizations, schools, physicians, etc. throughout the district to arrange services for consumers. Performs other duties as required. This position will have access to confidential and sensitive information. The successful candidate will be required to ensure the safeguarding and security of all confidential and sensitive information and will be required to complete trainings, sign acknowledgements, follow all policies and adhere to all statutes and requirements pertaining to the safeguarding and security of confidential and sensitive information while employed and after employment ends. EDUCATION
Graduate of a college or university with a master's degree in rehabilitation, rehabilitation teaching or therapy, guidance and/or counseling, psychology, sociology, orientation and mobility, social work, special education, education with emphasis in vocational counseling, disability studies, behavioral science, human services, vocational assessment, addiction counseling, addiction studies, or a related field.

A bachelor's degree plus an additional two years of professional experience in rehabilitation, rehabilitation teaching or therapy, vocational assessment, employer relations, rehabilitation technology, rehabilitation counseling, vocational evaluation, supported employment, job placement, guidance and/or counseling, psychology, sociology, orientation and mobility, social work, special education, education with emphasis in vocational counseling, customized employment, health studies, human relations, human resources, occupational therapy, physical therapy, school counseling, addiction studies, addiction counseling or a related field will substitute for the required master's degree.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
(AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in an office setting. Occasional travel will be required to coordinate services between customers and the agency. Probationary Period This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in
KRS 18A.111.
