Job Description
This position requires the individual to perform a broad range of activities and duties needing full range of motion, including manual and finger dexterity and hand and eye coordination. Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings. The position requires the ability to lift 30 pounds, bend, stand and walk for extended periods of time. It also requires working under stressful condition and irregular hours.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
Supervise a group of children. Plan and implement program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values. Assist program participants with schoolwork/homework. Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards. Work as a staff team member with all staff. Ensure that all areas, equipment and supplies are maintained in an orderly and safe manner. Provide quality experience for the children in the Programs. Adhere to schedules and planned activities. Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and special activities that are YMCA functions. Complete daily record keeping requirements such as attendance, check in/out system. Arrive to work as scheduled wearing appropriate attire. Notify supervisor of all incidents immediately, and discipline problems as needed. Cultivate positive relationships and maintain effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Model relationship building skills in all interactions. Responsible for any other duties as assigned by the Youth and Family Services Director
EXPERIENCE/PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
(Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) Willingness to carry out the mission of the YMCA and its programs. Ability to see that all business and safety records and procedures set up by the corporation are completed accurately within the defined time schedule. Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to maintain all personal certifications needed to serve in this position. Ability to interpret, as well as, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to work independently and utilize initiative, ability to be organized and to meet deadlines. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to learn and utilize other software programs.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS
At least 18 years of age. CPR, First Aid, AED certification within 30 days of hire. Child Abuse Prevention training prior to supervision of children. Experience working with children ages 4 to 14 years old preferred. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred. ____________________________________________________________
