Diploma Instructor who can help our participants overcome academic barriers and unlock their full potential. Position Summary As a
GED / HS
Diploma Instructor, you will work directly with young adults (ages 16-25) who have been involved with the justice system. Your primary goal is to provide high-quality, engaging, and accessible instruction that prepares participants to confidently take and pass all sections of the GED test and or HS Diploma. We aren't just looking for someone who can read from a textbook; we need an educator who can break down complex concepts, make learning relatable, and create an encouraging environment where students feel capable of succeeding. We do not have a lot of time to accomplish this goal either, the typical youth will graduate from our program in 6 month.
Key Responsibilities Targeted Instruction:
Deliver comprehensive instruction covering all four modules of the GED test: Mathematical Reasoning, Science, Social Studies, and Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA).
Curriculum Adaptation:
Tailor and simplify teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles, various academic starting points, and potential learning gaps.
Test Preparation & Strategy:
Teach proven test-taking strategies and study skills designed to maximize passing rates and make the test feel attainable.
Holistic Case Management:
Provide dedicated case management for the youth within your cohorts. Act as a primary point of contact to identify personal barriers to education and connect participants with necessary internal or external resources.
Participant Tracking & Continuity:
Actively follow and track youth as they progress through the Jail to Jobs program, ensuring consistent engagement, attendance, and milestone progression.
Post-Graduation Metrics & Evaluation:
Collect, document, and analyze critical performance and outcome metrics for participants after they graduate from Jail to Jobs to evaluate long-term success and employment stability.
Mentorship & Classroom Management:
Maintain a supportive, trauma-informed classroom environment that fosters mutual respect, builds confidence, and keeps students motivated.
Collaboration:
Work closely with the broader leadership and operations team to ensure participants receive holistic support to overcome external barriers to their education.
Proven track record of successfully teaching GED prep courses with a demonstrated ability to help students efficiently pass their exams.
Justice-Involved Youth Experience:
Direct experience working with justice-involved youth or young adults (ages 16-25). A deep understanding of the unique challenges, trauma, and systemic barriers faced by this population is critical.
Dynamic Communication:
Ability to translate complex educational concepts into straightforward, easy-to-understand terms.
Empathy & Patience:
Strong relational skills, patience, and a non-judgmental approach to education. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, or a related field (or equivalent specialized teaching experience). Experience with trauma-informed care or restorative justice practices.
