Family Behavioral Health & Healing (FBHH) is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and motivated Life Skills Counselor (QMHP) to provide behavioral health and life-skills support to children and adolescents in the home, school, and community. The ideal candidate enjoys working with youth and is passionate about helping children develop the skills they need to manage emotions, make positive decisions, improve relationships, and function more successfully at home, school, and in the community. This position is ideal for someone who is patient, energetic, creative, and comfortable engaging children through structured activities, coaching, modeling, and hands-on skill development.

Your Role:

As a Life Skills Counselor (Qualified Mental Health Professional - QMHP-T or QMHP) , you will: Provide direct, in-home and community-based mental health skill-building services to children and adolescents experiencing behavioral, emotional, or mental health challenges. Help children develop age-appropriate coping, emotional regulation, social, communication, and problem-solving skills. Support children in building positive behaviors and improving their ability to function successfully at home, school, and in the community. Work individually with each child, tailoring interventions and activities to their developmental level, needs, strengths, and treatment goals. Teach and reinforce healthy ways to manage anger, anxiety, frustration, conflict, and difficult emotions. Help children strengthen self-esteem, decision-making, independence, and interpersonal skills through engaging, hands-on activities. Use positive reinforcement, modeling, redirection, and other appropriate behavioral strategies to encourage skill development. Collaborate with parents/caregivers, therapists, case managers, schools, and other members of the child's treatment team. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services, interventions, and client progress using our streamlined documentation tools .

Dependable, organized, and able to manage responsibilities independently. Comfortable providing services in homes, schools, and community settings. Able to build trusting relationships with children and families. Able to communicate effectively with parents, caregivers, schools, and treatment team members. Comfortable documenting services electronically. Able to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. Creative and able to make life-skills training engaging for children. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Human Services, Education, or a related field preferred. QMHP credentialed or QMHP eligible required in accordance with Virginia requirements. Experience working with children, adolescents, families, or individuals with behavioral health needs preferred. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required Must be able to successfully complete required background checks and other pre-employment requirements. Schedule Schedule is afternoons and evenings based on client needs and service requirements.

Pay:

$24.00 per hour Expected hours: 15.0 - 30.0 per week
