Brief Job Summary:

The purpose of a Mentor/Life Skills Coach is to train, support and assist clients with the development and/or enhancement of skills leading towards meeting their personal goals and objectives. Individuals working in this role are required to provide behavioral health counseling, training, and direct support to address the functional/daily or social skills for youth with developmental disabilities, substance abuse history and/or emotional or behavioral challenges. There is a wide range of settings in which a Life Skills Coach may provide these types of services. As a Mentor/Life Skills Coach, you will inspire hope and empower the lives of the individuals that you are assigned to work with. 1

Typically Reports To:

Program Supervisor Qualifications:

• Must be at least 22 years of age
• Must possess excellent note-taking and writing skills
• Must be a team player and have good communication and organizational skills
• Knowledge of and ability to assess human growth and development, and principles associated with the wraparound treatment process
• Must meet the minimum education requirements

Main Functions:

• Maintain confidentiality of clients
• Adjust clients' goal strategies as necessary
• Provide client and family behavior management education and support
• Participate in treatment meetings and/or group consultations
• Serve as a positive role model, following agency guidelines for professional behavior and dress
• Establish a therapeutic relationship with clients receiving services to ensure effective guidance, direct support and service delivery
• Conduct initial assessments and provide necessary support to clients, to ensure person-centered goals and objectives are met
• Provide transportation for clients receiving services
• Maintain current progress summaries and service note entries on each client
• Maintain confidentiality, respect human rights and practice universal precautions in accordance with organizational policies and procedures 1 T he following list specifies the type of program that individuals hired in a Mentor/Life Skills Coach role may be required to work.

Casey Life Skills Program:

A program that is based on an assessment that examines the behaviors and competencies youth need in order to achieve their long-term goals. It aims to set youth on their way toward developing healthy, productive lives. It is designed to be used in a collaborative conversation between an educator, mentor, case worker, or other service provider. It is appropriate for all age-appropriate youth regardless of whether they are in foster care, live with their biological parents, or reside in a group home. After completion of an initial program assessment, youth are scored in a number of areas with an overall average being assigned to the assessment -- as well as individual focus areas being assigned their own scores. This method helps the coach, as well as other service providers working with the youth, receive an overall evaluation of any deficiencies that were identified, and this process helps in building the Initial Supervision Plan.

Therapeutic Mentoring Program:

Intended for youth whose conditions and abilities to manage stressors and feelings enable them to utilize supports and learn new skills for improved functioning in the community. It is designed to support age-appropriate social functioning or to ameliorate deficits in relation to the youth's overall level of functioning. It can be used in any setting where the youth resides, such as the home environment, and in other community settings, including culturally and linguistically appropriate community settings. Prior to initiation of therapeutic mentoring services, a Supervision Plan is accomplished in concert with the family and the youth when possible. This plan is essential in helping ensure the youth's success in navigating diverse social situations, learning new skills and making functional progress -- all while the therapeutic mentor offers supervision and support.

Work Schedule:

• Evening and weekend hours are required

Additional Requirements:

• CPR/First Aid certification is a plus
• Must have a valid driver's license in good standing
• Must be able and willing to transport individuals served
• Successful clearance of at least three professional references
• Successful clearance of all required background and registry checks

Educational Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree, with at least one year of experience working with adolescents is preferred.

Pay:

$19.00 - $25.00 per hour
