Position Overview:
A Business Intelligence Analyst plays a crucial role in turning our business data into the reporting our operations run on across both Ten Four Truck Insurance and Lone Mountain Truck Leasing. This is a SQL-first position responsible for writing and maintaining the queries behind our operational reports across underwriting, claims, sales, finance, and leasing — and building new reporting as the business grows. Our data lives across several source systems, each containing many databases, and learning that landscape is one of the most important parts of the job — you can't build reliable reporting without knowing where the data lives, how the systems relate, and what the numbers actually mean. This role works for our development team, supporting their reporting and data needs and lending a hand on related projects as needed. You'll also partner with our Information Technology team to put our local AI models to work on the data you build — surfacing trends, forecasting, and uncovering insights that go beyond standard reporting. The best person in this role pairs strong SQL skills with the curiosity and diligence to master a complex data environment, so the reporting they produce reflects reality and answers the real question. This position serves as the go-to resource for accurate, trustworthy reporting across both companies.
Write, tune, and maintain the SQL queries behind our operational reports across claims, underwriting, sales, finance, and leasing. Build new reports and data pulls as the business needs them, from one-off extracts to recurring operational reporting. Work alongside the development team, supporting their reporting and data needs and assisting with related projects as needed. Investigate and resolve data discrepancies by tracing a number from a report back through the query to the source tables. Translate business questions into correct, performant queries. Learn our claims, underwriting, policy, finance, and leasing workflows well enough that reporting reflects how the business actually works. Maintain and extend reports in our internal reporting application, where each report is a SQL query plus a simple configuration entry. Pull and combine data across multiple source systems, including SQL Server, our claims platform, Dynamics GP, and call-detail data. Build aggregate reporting logic such as counts, rollups, and classifications directly in SQL. Work with the Information Technology team to apply our local AI models to the data you build — identifying trends, forecasting, and generating insights that support business decisions. Partner with underwriting, claims, sales, and finance staff to understand their needs and deliver reporting that answers them. Audit and reconcile reporting to ensure numbers are accurate and consistent across systems. Perform additional operational duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong, hands-on SQL skills, including joins, CTEs, window functions, aggregation, and CASE logic, with the ability to read and untangle queries written by others. Real experience pulling and shaping data from relational databases (SQL Server / T-SQL preferred). Willingness to learn the business and understand what the numbers mean, not just how to select them. A troubleshooting mindset and persistence to find why a number is off and make it reconcile. Comfort working across multiple source systems and databases. Ability to work collaboratively with a development team and support technical projects as needed. Interest in or experience applying AI or analytical models to data for trends and forecasting is a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain a data issue to a non-technical audience. Highly organized and detail oriented. Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment. Basic PHP, HTML, or scripting familiarity (PowerShell or Python) is a plus but not required. Insurance, claims, or trucking-industry data experience is a plus.
