Main Function The Interventional Radiologic Technologist is responsible for preparing interventional radiology (IR) rooms specific to the procedures being performed. This role requires excellent customer service skills to create a caring and supportive environment for patients and their families. The technologist is also responsible for imaging and assisting the provider during procedures. Primary Responsibilities Prepare patients and procedure rooms according to the exam being performed. Set up equipment, trays, and supplies; position patients; determine proper exposure factors to produce high-quality images. Monitor patient status and alert the imaging RN or physician of any changes. Operate radiologic equipment safely, minimizing radiation exposure to patients. Assist the provider with wire and catheter manipulation during procedures. Use electronic patient information systems to verify patient identity, exam details, and provider instructions. Follow dual patient identifier protocols. Maintain appropriate inventory levels in procedure rooms. Work efficiently and safely within the IR setting. Safely transfer patients using assistive devices. Be capable of calling a code and know the location of crash carts and emergency supplies. Notify supervisors or Clinical Engineering of equipment malfunctions. Ensure accurate patient recordkeeping by properly identifying and sending images to the PACS system. Complete and bill for studies accurately and in a timely manner. Job Expectations Demonstrate a commitment to excellent customer service in all interactions. Maintain current NYS licensure, ARRT certification, and CPR/BLS certification. Adhere to all hospital and departmental policies, including attendance, dress code, patient identification, confidentiality (HIPAA), infection control, and safety protocols. Complete all required hospital training and health updates. Be aware of electrical and radiation hazards and potential exposure to unpleasant physical conditions. Stand for extended periods and regularly handle light to heavy weights. Work independently and collaboratively; seek assistance from senior technologists when needed. Communicate clearly with patients to ensure understanding of procedures. Foster a positive relationship between Diagnostic Imaging and internal/external customers. Practice proper infection control and aseptic techniques. Be knowledgeable about equipment and inventory required for IR procedures. Verify and follow provider orders in compliance with departmental policies. Remain calm and prioritize tasks in high-pressure situations. Perform additional duties and respond to hospital codes as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Completion of formal training from an accredited School of Radiologic Technology. Current NYS Radiologic Technologist license and ARRT certification with continuing education credits. One year of experience as a Radiologic Technologist preferred.
