System Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced System Engineer to join our IT team. In this role, you will ensure the performance, security, and day-to-day operation of our bank's core IT infrastructure. This role is ideal for a proactive, self-motivated professional who enjoys maintaining complex virtual environments, optimizing enterprise storage, and keeping critical financial systems highly secure and resilient. The successful candidate will play a hands-on role in deploying, monitoring, and upgrading server, storage, and network components while collaborating closely with the IT Manager to deliver resilient, scalable technology solutions.
Please Note:
Candidates must clearly demonstrate hands-on experience with VMWare vSphere and enterprise SAN storage systems on their resume. Hybrid remote options are available based on ongoing performance. Standard expectation is 5 days in-office per week during the initial onboarding period.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage Infrastructure:
Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, and upgrade of core server infrastructure, hardware, and storage systems.
Optimize Virtual Environments:
Oversee an enterprise datacenter environment hosting 100-200+ virtual servers to ensure high availability and performance.
Strategy & Planning:
Collaborate with the IT Manager on daily operational planning, project coordination, and the development of business case justifications for IT initiatives.
Systems Documentation:
Continually develop, improve, and maintain deep technical and procedural documentation for all core systems.
Support & Operations:
Assist in the definition and execution of IT policies, security protocols, disaster recovery procedures, and asset management.
REQUIREMENTS
Core Experience:
A minimum of 4 years of experience as an administrator/engineer in an enterprise-level network environment.
Virtualization Expertise:
Strong, proven hands-on experience managing and configuring within VMWare vSphere.
Storage Management:
Direct experience maintaining and managing NetApp SAN Storage or an equivalent enterprise SAN technology. Experience with Cisco UCS hardware or equivalent.
Scale:
Prior experience managing a data center footprint of at least 100-200+ virtual servers.
Technical Knowledge:
Deep understanding of current server operating systems, active directory environments, and enterprise security standards.
Communication:
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to present technical ideas in business-friendly language. On-call availability for critical system needs. Ability to occasionally lift and transport moderately heavy computer components. Ability to travel to attend technical conferences or complete enterprise projects.
PREFERRED
Familiarity with enterprise networking concepts (Cisco/Juniper routing/switching, Cisco Firewalls, and Aruba/SilverPeak SD-WAN) to collaborate effectively with our network team. Familiarity with cloud and modern endpoint management platforms: Microsoft Azure, Entra, M365, and Intune.
