Job Description

Overview Join our dynamic team as a GIS/Utility Mapping Specialist and become a vital part of our infrastructure development and maintenance projects! In this energetic role, you will leverage your expertise in geographic information systems (GIS), land surveying, and utility mapping to create precise, detailed geospatial data that supports efficient project planning, construction, and asset management. Your innovative approach to data visualization and mapping software will help visualize complex utility networks, ensuring accuracy and clarity for all stakeholders. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead mapping initiatives, develop comprehensive GIS databases, and contribute to critical infrastructure projects that make a difference in communities. Duties Conduct land surveying activities using GPS, total stations, and other advanced equipment to gather accurate geospatial data for utility mapping projects. Develop, maintain, and enhance GIS databases by integrating new data sets, ensuring data integrity, and optimizing data management processes. Create detailed maps and visualizations using GIS software such as ArcGIS, incorporating cartography best practices to produce clear and professional deliverables. Utilize CAD tools like AutoCAD for drafting utility layouts, schematics, and construction plans with precision. Manage large datasets within relational databases and SQL environments; develop scripts using Python or JavaScript to automate workflows and improve data analysis efficiency. Collaborate with project teams to analyze geospatial data for utility network analysis, capacity planning, and spatial analysis tasks. Lead efforts in data collection, quality assurance, and documentation; utilize APIs and scripting to enhance mapping software functionalities. Support project management activities by coordinating mapping schedules, tracking progress via SharePoint or similar platforms, and ensuring timely delivery of mapping products. Provide technical guidance on GIS programming, database management, and geospatial analysis techniques to junior team members or stakeholders. Assist in construction projects by providing accurate mapping support during installation phases; ensure all geospatial information aligns with project specifications. Qualifications Proven experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS or similar platforms; strong skills in geospatial data visualization and cartography. Solid background in land surveying techniques combined with experience using GPS equipment for precise data collection. Proficiency in CAD software like AutoCAD for drafting utility layouts; familiarity with mapping using GIS tools is essential. Knowledge of database management systems including SQL; experience developing GIS databases and working with relational databases is highly desirable. Programming skills in Python, JavaScript, or scripting languages; experience working with APIs for integrating external data sources or enhancing GIS functionalities. Strong analysis skills with the ability to interpret complex geospatial datasets for utility network analysis or construction planning. Excellent data management skills; capable of developing models for efficient data collection, storage, retrieval, and analysis. Leadership qualities with the ability to coordinate multiple tasks across teams while maintaining attention to detail. Construction experience is a plus—familiarity with utility installation processes enhances project support capabilities. Effective communication skills to present technical findings clearly; experience working with project management tools like SharePoint is advantageous.
