This position focuses on hands-on management of our GIS team — overseeing task delivery, ensuring quality, and helping define our geospatial technology direction. The ideal candidate is a technically proficient GIS professional who can lead a team, drive quality deliverables, and occasionally represent the company in client meetings as needed. The GIS Manager is a technical leadership role responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the GIS team. This individual will oversee task delivery, ensure quality standards, contribute to GIS technology strategy, and occasionally attend client meetings to provide technical insight or represent leadership when needed. This role is critical to maintaining high-quality GIS output and driving the team's technical growth and efficiency. GIS Team Management Manage, mentor, and direct the GIS team including GIS Analysts, GIS Technicians, and GIS Developers Assign, prioritize, and track tasks across team members to ensure timely and quality delivery Conduct quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews on GIS deliverables Establish and enforce standard operating procedures, best practices, and workflows Coordinate across GIS technicians and GIS developers to ensure alignment on project goals Identify training needs and support professional development of team members Manage workload distribution and resource allocation across active projects Technology & Strategy Help define and drive the GIS technology roadmap and strategic direction Evaluate emerging GIS technologies, tools, and platforms for potential adoption Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and quality Collaborate with development staff on product enhancements and solution architecture Stay current with industry trends, Esri platform updates, and geospatial best practices Delivery & Quality Ensure all project deliverables meet quality standards and client expectations Monitor project timelines, budgets, and scope; flag risks early Facilitate communication between clients and technical staff Oversee documentation of processes, deliverables, and project decisions Client Support (Occasional) Attend client meetings on behalf of leadership as needed to provide technical insight or project updates Represent the GIS team in client-facing discussions when business needs arise Communicate project status, technical capabilities, and deliverable timelines to clients in a clear, professional manner Support leadership in maintaining client relationships through responsive communication Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or related field 5+ years of progressive experience in GIS / geospatial technology 2+ years of experience managing or leading a technical team Strong proficiency with Esri ArcGIS platform (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Enterprise) Comfort in occasional client-facing interactions (meetings, presentations, status updates) Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities Experience with QA/QC processes for GIS data and deliverables Preferred Qualifications Experience with GIS development workflows (Python, SQL, APIs) Familiarity with enterprise GIS solutions and data management PMP, GISP, or other relevant certifications Experience in utility, energy, or infrastructure sectors Experience defining technology roadmaps or leading digital transformation initiatives Competencies and Attributes Leadership
