GIS Specialist Kent Power - 3.4 Rockford, MI Job Details Full-time 1 day ago Qualifications Mapping using GIS Mapping software GIS software Python GIS Full Job Description Summary At Kent Power, GIS is becoming a critical part of how we plan work, support field operations, improve customer service, and make business decisions. As our GIS Specialist, you won't simply maintain maps and databases. You'll help build and scale the geospatial tools, systems, and workflows that support utility construction projects across electric, gas, transmission, distribution, substation, and storm response operations. This is a highly visible role that will serve as the organization's dedicated GIS subject matter expert, partnering with leadership, project management, operations, and field teams to transform business needs into practical solutions that improve productivity, enhance safety, increase data accuracy, and provide greater visibility into our work. As demand for GIS capabilities continues to grow across the company, you'll have the opportunity to shape how geospatial technology supports the future of Kent Power. Essential Functions Develop, maintain, and administer GIS maps, applications, databases, and data layers using ArcGIS Online and Field Maps. Build user-friendly GIS tools for field crews, project managers, supervisors, and leadership. Collect, organize, validate, analyze, and maintain spatial and asset-related data. Establish GIS data standards, documentation, naming conventions, and quality-control procedures. Create dashboards, maps, reports, and visualizations that improve organizational visibility and decision-making. Support integration of GIS with project management, equipment, as-built, and other operational systems. Provide technical guidance and training to employees using GIS applications and field-based mapping tools. Identify opportunities where GIS can improve productivity, safety, customer service, or data quality. Troubleshoot GIS applications and data issues; document workflows for long-term sustainability. Evaluate new GIS technologies and manage multiple projects while communicating progress to stakeholders. Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Geospatial Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 2+ years of hands-on experience with ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Field Maps, and related Esri products. Utility industry experience strongly preferred — familiarity with electric, gas, or energy infrastructure operations is a plus. Strong data management skills with experience maintaining spatial databases and ensuring data quality. Ability to translate business needs into practical, field-ready GIS solutions. Experience creating dashboards, web maps, and data visualizations. Strong communication skills with the ability to train non-technical users and collaborate across departments. Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
