Full Job Description Director of Technology Development Department:

Chief Technology Officer About the Role EMS is seeking an experienced Director of Development to lead our software development team and strengthen the quality, consistency, and scalability of how we build and deliver technology. Reporting to the CTO, this is a hands-on technical leadership role combining people leadership, software development expertise, DevOps ownership, and engineering judgment . You will help determine how business priorities are translated into secure, scalable, maintainable software while ensuring development standards remain strong as EMS grows. What You'll Do Lead, coach, and develop the software development team while maintaining clear expectations for performance, quality, and accountability. Partner with the CTO on architecture, technical direction, development standards, and engineering priorities. Establish consistency across the software development lifecycle, including Jira, GitHub, CI/CD, code review, testing, and production releases. Serve as a quality gate for production code, including work completed by vendors and contractors. Maintain technical accountability across front-end, back-end, and cloud infrastructure. Ensure development decisions account for security, scalability, maintainability, and business needs. Establish responsible practices for AI-assisted development while ensuring human judgment remains accountable for code decisions. Advise leadership on technical feasibility, risk, timelines, and trade-offs. Support HIPAA and SOC 2 requirements through development, testing, release, and documentation practices. What We're Looking For We are looking for a technically strong leader who can evaluate code, develop people, improve engineering practices, and make sound decisions when quality, speed, and business priorities compete. Qualifications 8+ years building scalable, enterprise-grade software 3+ years managing software developers Full-stack technical fluency across front-end, back-end, and cloud infrastructure Experience owning DevOps, CI/CD, and software delivery processes Experience delivering software within HIPAA or similarly regulated environments Ability to read and critically evaluate code across the technology stack Experience managing developer performance and developing technical talent Ability to evaluate vendor and contractor code against established standards Strong ability to communicate technical risks and trade-offs to non-technical leaders Why Join EMS?
