OVERVIEW OF POSITION
Reports under the Director of Information Technology to coordinate, manage, and execute ACPS employee and student data initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicant should possess the following skills, knowledge and abilities in order to meet the minimum requirements for the position:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline preferred; or equivalent professional experience in data analysis, reporting, and business intelligence accepted in lieu of a degree.
Autonomy & Independent Execution
Self-Directed Execution:
Proven ability to work with high autonomy, managing analytical initiatives independently from initial requirement gathering through to final report, dashboard, or data solution delivery with minimal day-to-day supervision.
Independent Problem Solving:
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to autonomously diagnose, debug, and resolve complex data discrepancies, pipeline errors, or reporting issues.
Targeted Collaboration & Communication
Cross-Functional Communication:
Ability to step out of independent work to communicate confidently with business and educational leadership (e.g., Academics, Student Services, Administration, HR, Finance, etc.) regarding data needs, while seamlessly collaborating with internal IT technical staff on backend execution.
Technical-to-Business Translation:
Skilled at independently gathering analytical requirements from non-technical stakeholders and translating them into technical data specifications, as well as explaining complex statistical trends, metrics, or data constraints back to leadership in clear, plain language.
Vendor Coordination
Data Source Liaison:
Experience acting as a primary analytical point of contact for external data providers, software vendors and third-party tools to clarify data structures, API exports, and schema changes.
Data Quality Issue Escalation:
Ability to independently document, articulate, and escalate upstream data quality failures or integration discrepancies to vendors or internal IT teams to ensure timely resolution.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Reporting & Analytics:
Design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards, performance metrics, state required compliance reports and complex ad-hoc and scheduled reports, to support data-informed decision-making across the organization.
Requirements Gathering & Data Modeling:
Interview business stakeholders to translate school administration needs into actionable key performance indicators (KPIs), semantic data models, and analytical frameworks.
Lifecycle Data Insights:
Analyze and track critical student and employee lifecycles to identify trends, operational bottlenecks, and opportunities for workflow optimization.
Relational Database Querying & Analysis:
Write and optimize advanced SQL queries to extract, transform, and analyze large datasets housed in relational databases.
Data Validation & Quality Assurance:
Conduct rigorous data validation, QA, and auditing across automated reports, metrics, and data pipelines to enforce strict data integrity and governance compliance.
Cross-Functional Data Alerts:
Design automated reporting triggers and exception reports to instantly alert relevant personnel when key data thresholds, anomalies, or record updates occur.
Self-Service Enablement & Documentation:
Author comprehensive data dictionaries, technical documentation, and end-user training materials to empower school staff to interpret and utilize data effectively.
Data Pipeline Collaboration:
Partner with other IT staff and system administrators to evaluate backend performance, validate schema designs, and ensure data availability for downstream reporting needs.
Other Duties:
Performs other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Educational Domain Knowledge:
Familiarity with school administration workflows, specifically regarding data lifecycles, state reporting standards, and compliance demands.
Database & Querying Skills:
Hands-on experience writing complex queries and navigating relational database management systems (RDBMS) housing sensitive records.
BI & Analytics Tools:
Proven proficiency with modern business intelligence and data visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker) and data analysis tools (e.g., Python, Excel).
Application Ownership:
Prior experience managing core application systems dedicated to student and employee information or data analytics.
Project Execution:
Strong organizational skills to manage complex reporting schedules, compliance deadlines, and analytical project timelines independently.
Autonomy & Agility:
Ability to drive data initiatives independently with minimal guidance, with the flexibility to adapt to shifting organizational priorities.
