Job Description

Position Summary Interlochen is seeking dependable and safety-focused Bus Drivers to provide transportation services for students, faculty, staff, and guests throughout campus and surrounding areas. This position plays a vital role in supporting daily campus operations, educational programs, performances, and special events by ensuring passengers arrive safely and on schedule. Key Responsibilities Safely operate buses and other assigned vehicles in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Transport students, faculty, staff, guest artists, and visitors to and from campus destinations, events, field trips, and airports as assigned. Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly. Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage records, and inspection reports. Ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers while maintaining professional and courteous service. Assist passengers with boarding, luggage, equipment, or accessibility needs when appropriate. Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned vehicles. Follow established routes, schedules, and dispatch instructions while adapting to changing transportation needs. Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow campus safety procedures. Support transportation operations during concerts, camps, special events, and other campus activities as needed. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) endorsement (or ability to obtain before employment, if applicable). Clean driving record and ability to pass required background checks, drug screenings, and motor vehicle record reviews. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in a variety of driving conditions. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist passengers with luggage or equipment as needed. Preferred Previous experience operating buses, shuttle vehicles, or commercial passenger transportation. Experience working in an educational, hospitality, or customer-focused environment. First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain). Skills & Competencies Strong commitment to safety and defensive driving. Reliable, punctual, and dependable. Professional demeanor and excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure. Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays when required. Strong attention to detail and adherence to policies and procedures. Work Environment Primarily operates buses and shuttle vehicles on campus and throughout surrounding communities. Regular exposure to varying weather and road conditions. Requires extended periods of sitting, driving, entering and exiting vehicles, and occasional lifting of passenger belongings or equipment. Schedule may include mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events based on campus transportation needs.
