Bus Driver & Substitute Security Guard The Bridges Academy in West Islip, NY is seeking a dependable, safety-minded, and community-oriented individual to join our team as a Bus Driver and Substitute Security Guard for the 2026-2027 school year. Position Overview This unique position combines student transportation responsibilities with on-campus security support as needed. The successful candidate will ensure the safe transportation of students while helping maintain a secure, welcoming, and orderly school environment. ResponsibilitiesBus Driver (Primary position) Safely transport students to and from school and school-sponsored activities. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the school bus. Follow all traffic laws, school transportation policies, and safety procedures. Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly bus. Communicate professionally with students, parents, and school staff. Report maintenance concerns, accidents, or incidents promptly. Substitute Security Guard (As needed) Monitor school entrances, exits, and campus grounds. Welcome and assist visitors while enforcing visitor check-in procedures. Help maintain a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, and visitors. Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow school safety protocols. Assist with arrival, dismissal, and special events as needed. Work collaboratively with school administration and staff. Qualifications Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate passenger and school bus endorsements (or ability to obtain required endorsements). Clean driving record. Prior experience driving a school bus or commercial vehicle is preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to remain calm, professional, and dependable in a school setting. Security experience is preferred but not required. Must successfully complete all required background checks and fingerprinting.
