The Prince George's County Office of Central Services is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Senior Mail Services Operator (Mail Services Operator III) grade G 14 position, in the General Services Division. About the Position Prince George's County Office of Central Services is seeking qualified applicants to fill a Mail Services Operator III, grade G-14, within its General Services Division. This is advanced senior and lead work in the daily performance of general mail, courier and mailroom activities, which includes the sorting and posting of mail, the operation and maintenance of mail processing equipment, and picking up and delivering mail on a scheduled and predetermined basis. The selected candidate will assist the Mail Services Supervisor in the general administration of the section and provide guidance and assistance to subordinate level positions. The employee may assume the duties and responsibilities of the supervisor in their absence. Work performance is evaluated by the supervisor based upon the achievement of a timely courier and mail pick-up and delivery system. This is an essential position. About the Agency The Office of Central Services is a multifaceted agency of the Prince George's County Government providing government-wide, mission critical support services in the areas of facilities operations and management, building design & construction, real estate services, fleet management, and general services. We make government operations operate better for the government. Delivers and picks up mail daily to and from the United States Post Office. Assists in sorting postal and inter-office mail by department/agency. Operates and maintains County vehicles and mail processing equipment (e.g., postage scale, postage machine/meter, mailing machine) in accordance with established policies and procedures. Makes courier runs throughout County government locations to deliver, sort and pick up mail. Assists in maintaining appropriate log of metered postage by department/agency. Assumes the duties and responsibilities of the supervisor in their absence. Operates computerized equipment in conjunction with assigned duties and responsibilities. Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class for work. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications listed below to be eligible for additional consideration: High School Diploma or G.E.D. One (1) year of mail services experience. Possession of a valid driver's license. An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered. Preferred Qualifications Highly qualified candidates may also demonstrate the preferred qualifications listed below: Working knowledge of US Postal Service rate schedules. Experience operating computerized direct addressing and labeling equipment. Experience operating a six-pocket inserter. Experience operating a high-speed tabber. Knowledge of applicable Federal regulations for handling mail to lead unit operations. Ability to troubleshoot and repair machines. Strong customer service skills.

Conditions of Employment :
Upon selection, the candidate must (where applicable): Possession of a valid driver's license. Work may be performed around machinery with moving parts and moving objects and may require the operation of a motor vehicle. Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting and carrying objects weighing 45 pounds or more; push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend repeatedly, and climb; and use fingers and hands to perform assigned duties. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to excessive heat, cold, humidity, dampness, dry atmospheric conditions, and intermittent dust. Requires the ability to perform rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; have good near and far vision (correctable), depth perception, and the ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing aids are permitted. Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency. Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties. Successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings. Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. This is an essential position. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
