The Station Master is responsible for matters related to assuring effective and cordial relations with customers of the Adirondack Railroad and Excelsior Railbikes, selling tickets using an online ticketing system and maintaining accurate financial records of ticket sales, and gift shop sales. Primarily responsible for overseeing station operations, ensuring efficiency and smooth workflow. The Station Manager will manage the workforce by setting objectives, establishing guidelines, delegating tasks, and problem solving. The Station Manager supervises Railbikes, gift shop and onboard service attendants, assures that the Thendara station is kept clean, that consumables are replenished on days of operations, to meet customer needs.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor gift shop, café car attendants, and railbike guides as directed by management. Inventory and request merchandise, food and beverages as needed from the Passenger Service Manager. Handle cash and credit card using online ticketing and POS Systems Preparing daily cash out sheets and bank deposits for the railroad and for Excelsior Railbikes Greeting passengers when trains arrive and assisting with local information requests Ticketing passengers for boarding trains and railbikes Maintaining a pleasant work environment Answering telephone inquiries and retrieving messages Assist with managing shuttle bus service Assuring cleanliness of the station and the surrounding premises Other tasks as assigned by manager.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
This is a seasonal, hourly-paid position, starting in mid-May and ending in early November. Hours for the position will vary depending on Railbike and Train schedules. On occasion, as may be required by special events, additional hours will be required. The job requires frequent interaction with the traveling public.
DEMONSTRATED QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent Valid NYS driver's license
Required Knowledge:
Demonstrated knowledge of computer operations and sales terminals
Skills/Abilities:
Enjoy working with the public Demonstrated problem solving initiative
Pay:
$20.00 - $25.00 per hour People with a criminal record are encouraged to apply
