Responsibilities Safely operate motor coaches, school buses, shuttle vehicles, and paratransit vans on city streets and highways, adhering strictly to traffic laws and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations. Conduct thorough vehicle inspections before and after each shift to ensure optimal safety standards are met, including checking air brakes and other mechanical systems. Provide excellent customer service by assisting passengers with boarding, alighting, and accommodating passenger special needs or disabilities with care and professionalism. Navigate efficiently using city street maps and GPS systems while maintaining awareness of traffic conditions, adverse weather situations, and construction zones. Communicate effectively with dispatchers via two-way radios for driver updates, route changes, or emergency situations. Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, vehicle inspections, maintenance needs, and passenger counts in compliance with DOT regulations. Promote transportation safety by practicing defensive driving techniques and ensuring passenger safety at all times during transit. Requirements Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements such as air brake certification; experience driving motor coaches, school buses, or shuttle vehicles is highly preferred. Proven driving experience in a commercial setting with a focus on bus driving or delivery driving; familiarity with vehicle inspections and maintenance procedures. Strong mechanical knowledge to identify potential vehicle issues early and communicate maintenance needs effectively. Knowledge of traffic laws, state transportation regulations, DOT (Department of Transportation) rules, and transportation safety standards. Excellent communication skills in English for clear interaction with passengers and team members; ability to operate two-way radios confidently. Ability to drive in adverse weather conditions while maintaining safety standards; experience navigating city streets efficiently. Customer service orientation with a focus on passenger assistance and accommodating individuals with special needs or disabilities. Physical ability to assist passengers as needed and perform vehicle inspections; must meet health requirements for commercial driving roles.
