Exciting opportunity to work for CREST- The Collaborative for Regional Educational Services and Training. We are currently seeking Van Drivers to transport adults and/or students from their homes in the Merrimack Valley to our campus in Andover. Experience in an educational setting or driving adults and/or students but willing to train the right candidates. Summer driving opportunities as well! Must possess current, valid driver's license Hourly positions available 7D Certification preferred Duties Safely operate school vans and paratransit vehicles in accordance with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Transport students to school, extracurricular activities, appointments, and special events while adhering to designated routes and schedules. Assist students with disabilities or mobility challenges by providing wheelchair assistance and ensuring their comfort and safety during transit. Follow emergency response procedures for transportation, including emergency stop procedures and handling unexpected traffic changes swiftly. Maintain clear communication with school staff, parents, and dispatchers using effective verbal and written communication skills. Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure proper functioning of brakes, lights, signals, and safety equipment. Manage student behavior professionally through behavior management techniques while ensuring passenger safety at all times. Requirements Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or transit bus operation preferred. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and state/local driving laws. First aid certification and CPR training are highly desirable to respond effectively during emergencies. Experience working with children or in educational settings is preferred. Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary for wheelchair assistance or loading equipment safely. Strong communication skills; multilingual abilities are a plus for engaging diverse student and adult populations. Demonstrated defensive driving skills with a quick response to traffic changes and emergency response procedures for transportation. Knowledge of school policies regarding passenger safety and behavior management to ensure a positive environment onboard.
Physical Requirements Mobility and Movement Standing, Walking, Sitting:
Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit for prolonged periods.
Reaching and Lifting:
Ability to reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally to access and arrange teaching materials, whiteboards, or bulletin boards.
Lifting and Carrying:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis. Ability to push and pull objects as needed.
Bending and Kneeling:
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit on the floor frequently to assist with students, staff, or manage behavior.
Repetitive Motion:
Use of hands and fingers for computer work, etc.
Sensory Requirements Visual Acuity:
Specific vision abilities required include vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Hearing Acuity:
Ability to hear and understand spoken directions at a conversational level, as well as the ability to distinguish and interpret sounds in a noisy environment.
Speaking/Verbal Communication:
Ability to clearly articulate verbal information to students, parents, colleagues, community members, and districts.
Stamina and Duration Sustained Energy:
Ability to maintain a high level of energy and mental alertness throughout the entire school day, managing the physical and mental demands of the role.
Safety and Emergency Management Quick Response:
Ability to physically respond quickly to emergencies, safety concerns, or unexpected physical demands (e.g., intervening in student behaviors, assisting an injured student/staff, or performing emergency evacuation procedures).
