Job Description

Schedule 37.5 hours per week Must be available to work daytime hours (6 am - 2 pm), Monday through Friday. Pay Rate $33,345.00 - $50,017.50 annually plus benefits The initial compensation for this position generally falls between $33,345.00 and $35,012.25, contingent upon relevant experience and qualifications. Apply By Applications must be received by 11:59 pm on Monday, September 7, 2026. Job Summary Ensures timely systemwide delivery of materials and documents and maintains the library vehicle. Roles, Responsibilities, and Essential Functions Drives the systemwide delivery route, transporting materials to library branches, county government offices, schools, and partner organizations. Operates library vehicle safely, courteously, and in compliance with Maryland Vehicle Administration regulations. Sorts, loads, transfers, and unloads materials at each stop in accordance with departmental procedures to ensure accurate and efficient distribution. Transports additional items to library locations as requested by staff or management. Conducts daily vehicle safety checks, operates vehicles in compliance with MVA regulations and library protocols, and monitors weather and other safety conditions in coordination with the supervisor. Maintains professional growth and development through participation in library teams, committees, outreach, and training activities. Performs other duties as instructed and assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Commitment to outstanding internal and external customer service. Ability to use clear, professional communication to create and tailor instructions based on individual needs and experience. Ability to safely operate a large delivery vehicle. Knowledge of Carroll County roads and assigned delivery routes. Ability to work in a digital environment and quickly learn new technologies relevant to library operations. Familiarity with CCPL policies, procedures, and guidelines. Maintains a valid driver's license with a clean driving record and safely operates Library vehicles in accordance with Carroll County Government Vehicle Guidelines. Education and Experience Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED Valid Class C driver's license and a clean driving record Completion of a driver safety course within one year of employment Preferred Qualifications One year of delivery driving experience Physical and Environmental Conditions Work involves frequent and strenuous physical activity, including handling heavy boxes (typically up to 50 lbs.), tools, equipment, and materials. Requires regular stooping, bending, and prolonged periods of sitting or driving. Work environment may involve exposure to risks or discomforts requiring special safety precautions, such as working around moving parts, carts, or machinery. May require working outdoors in adverse weather conditions. Adherence to safe workplace practices is essential, including proper use of equipment, avoiding slips, trips, and falls, and complying with motor vehicle laws and fire regulations. The work environment presents typical, everyday risks or discomforts found in offices, libraries, and meeting or training rooms. Standard safety precautions are required, including proper use of equipment, maintaining clear walkways to prevent trips and falls, and adherence to fire and safety regulations.
