Moving Foreman / Driver — $22-$28/hr — Southwest Harbor, ME Norumbega Moving & Storage is hiring a Moving Foreman to run jobs on Mount Desert Island, along coastal Maine, and on interstate runs up and down the East Coast. This is not a general labor posting. We are looking for one person who can take a job sheet, a truck, and a two- or three-person crew, and run the day without being managed. If you have done that before, good. If you haven't but you have the head for it, we will train you. We would rather teach the craft to someone with judgment than teach judgment to someone with a résumé. What the job actually is You are the person the client talks to all day. You do the walk-through, you decide how the crew splits the house, you make the call on what gets crated and what gets blanket-wrapped, and you sign the paperwork at the end. You drive a 26' box truck to and from the job. You work alongside your crew, this is a hands-on role, but the difference between you and a mover is that you are thinking two rooms ahead while you do it. Most of our work is high-end residential and designer-referred. Antiques, art, custom furniture, summer homes. The standard is white-glove, which means we move slower than the other guys and take more care. If you take pride in a truck that's packed tight and a house that's cleaner than you found it, this is the place for you. We also run interstate long haul trips. These are scheduled well in advance, but you will be on the road for up to 6 days. What we're looking for Someone who shows up. Reliability is the single thing we cannot train. Comfort talking to clients. You'll be in expensive homes with people having a stressful week. Sound judgment under pressure. Tight stairwells, weather, schedule changes, a surprise piano. Willingness to run our system, even if a previous employer did it differently. Care for other people's property as if it were your own. Requirements 18 or older, legally authorized to work in the US Valid driver's license with a clean driving record No CDL required. Our trucks are under CDL threshold. If you have a CDL, that's a plus and it affects your rate. Comfortable operating a box truck up to 26', or willing to be trained Able to pass a background check Physically capable of the work: repeated lifting, stairs, long days on your feet. Need to be able to move 50+lbs repeatedly all day. Pay and Benefits $22-$28/hour , depending on experience and whether you're driving from day one Overtime paid per Maine and federal law.
