Job Description

The Class A CDL Semi Truck Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently operating a tractor-trailer to transport freight while representing Schurter Trucking, LLC in a professional manner. The driver is expected to comply with all company policies, DOT regulations, and applicable state and federal laws. The driver is responsible for the safe operation of assigned equipment, proper handling and securement of loads, timely completion of assigned routes, accurate completion of required documentation, and maintaining communication with dispatch.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Safely operate a tractor-trailer and other assigned company equipment. Maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and required DOT medical certification. Complete required pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Identify and report mechanical problems, safety concerns, or equipment defects. Safely load, unload, secure, and transport freight as required. Follow all DOT regulations, including hours-of-service requirements. Maintain accurate driver logs, delivery records, inspection reports, and other required paperwork. Communicate with dispatch regarding routes, deliveries, delays, equipment issues, and other job-related matters. Arrive at scheduled pickup and delivery locations on time. Verify loads and paperwork before leaving pickup locations. Maintain the cleanliness and general condition of the assigned truck and equipment. Follow all company safety procedures and policies. Report accidents, incidents, injuries, traffic violations, or damage immediately to management. Provide professional and courteous service to customers and other members of the public. Assist with loading, unloading, or other transportation-related duties when required. Maintain a professional appearance and conduct while representing Schurter Trucking. Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications Required:
Valid Class A CDL . Current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate. Ability to legally operate a commercial motor vehicle. Ability to meet all DOT requirements applicable to the position. Safe driving record. Ability to pass required drug and alcohol testing. Dependable attendance and punctuality. Ability to safely operate and maneuver a tractor-trailer. Ability to communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and coworkers.
Preferred :
Previous tractor-trailer driving experience. Experience with local or regional freight transportation. Knowledge of DOT regulations and hours-of-service requirements. Experience performing basic vehicle inspections and identifying equipment issues.
Physical Requirements:
The employee must be able to perform the physical requirements necessary to safely complete the job, which may include: Sitting and driving for extended periods. Entering and exiting the truck repeatedly. Walking, standing, bending, reaching, and climbing. Securing loads and handling equipment. Loading or unloading freight when required. Lifting and carrying items as required by the job. Performing vehicle inspections in various weather conditions.
Work Environment:
The employee may work in a variety of environments, including highways, roads, customer locations, loading docks, yards, and outdoor work areas. The position may require working in varying weather conditions and adjusting to changing traffic, road, and worksite conditions.

Safety is a primary responsibility of this position.
Drivers are expected to:
Follow all DOT, state, federal, and company safety requirements. Operate vehicles responsibly and defensively. Never operate company equipment while impaired. Properly use required safety equipment. Immediately report unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, and equipment concerns. Maintain all required driver qualifications and certifications.
