Job Title:
Operator/Driver Job Description This role combines professional driving with hands-on equipment operation and maintenance in a specialty environmental services setting. The Operator/Driver supports refinery and field operations by transporting equipment, operating thermal oxidizers and related systems, and assisting with setup, operation, and teardown of environmental cleaning units. The position requires strict adherence to DOT standards, frequent national travel, and on-call availability, while working in industrial environments to support air pollutant cleaning, thermal scrubbing, and tank degassing activities. Responsibilities Operate and run environmental cleaning units full time, including air pollutant cleaning, thermal scrubbing, and tank degassing systems. Drive company vehicles to customer sites locally and nationally, transporting thermal oxidizers, pump equipment, and related machinery in compliance with DOT regulations. Deliver, drop off, and pick up equipment at refinery and field locations, ensuring safe and timely transport. Assist operators with equipment setup, operation, monitoring, and teardown at customer sites. Document all hauls, inspections, and related activities using an iPhone, submitting information via email and through the internal system. Perform equipment maintenance and repair in the shop and in the field, including turning wrenches, grinding, repairing, assembling, cleaning, and testing equipment. Support refinery and field operations by performing yard work and general mechanical tasks as needed. Comply with all safety procedures, including the use of required PPE and adherence to site-specific safety programs. Remain available for on-call assignments and respond to service calls, including driving to client sites as needed. Work extended hours, including overtime, weekends, and turnaround schedules, and remain on site until work is completed. Operate both manual and automatic transmission vehicles when holding a CDL, ensuring safe handling in various conditions. Maintain a clean driving record and follow all DOT and company policies for vehicle operation and documentation. Essential Skills Minimum of 2+ years of professional driving experience. Mechanically inclined with the ability to perform basic mechanical work such as wrenching, grinding, repairing, assembling, and testing equipment. Active TWIC card. Basic Plus/SE-Safe certification. Ability to meet DISA (0-1) requirements. Ability to pass a hair follicle screening. Clean driving record with adherence to DOT standards. Ability and willingness to travel nationally on a weekly basis and work on call as needed. Capability to operate both manual and automatic transmission vehicles if holding a CDL. Comfort working in refinery and industrial environments, including outdoor conditions in both heat and cold. Ability to work day and night shifts, including extended hours, overtime, and weekends. Proficiency using an iPhone to document hauls, inspections, and communicate via email and internal systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous environmental industry experience. Previous pump or vacuum equipment experience. Previous experience with extensive travel for work. Bilingual communication skills. Experience working in refinery or similar industrial environments. Work Environment You work primarily in refinery and industrial field environments, often outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat and cold. You drive company vehicles to sites both locally and across the country, supporting projects that may require extended travel and on-call responses. The role involves frequent use of fire-retardant (FR) clothing, steel-toe footwear, and full personal protective equipment (PPE) in compliance with site and company safety standards. Shifts include both day and night schedules, typically 6:00 AM-4:00 PM or 6:00 PM-4:00 AM, with overtime and weekend work as needed. During turnaround periods, you may work a 13-days-on/1-day-off schedule, and a typical workweek is around 60+ hours, with a guaranteed 40 hours when workloads are lighter. The environment is hands-on, physically demanding, and focused on safe, efficient completion of work until each job is finished. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of La Porte, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
